Generally, I'm not a big fan of modern billboards. These new "big screen TV" style billboards are very distracting to me, especially when driving at night and they have a super bright display on them.

As a kid, however, I did enjoy the Burma Shave road signs, and it seems that billboards back then were pretty creative.

I would probably feel much differently if there were more billboards like these:

Thankfully we still have a lot of the old ones around here.

The reason for those modern ones, of course, is that you can display more than one ad. Increased profits.

I think in California (at least in some cities) they ban having them on late overnight, or maybe they just turn them off when the "market penetration" is lower to save energy. I've seen some of them dark when I'm driving back from somewhere later at night.

I used to live just up the road (US 1) from Rockingham. Went to the last NASCAR event there.

Were they the Cow Pies or the Hair Pies? Anyway that billboard is right, mine sure did quite unexpectedly. I got on the Parkway and when it got up to 60mph it fishtailed all over the place. Those wings gave it lift and the rear wheels almost came off the ground but a 200lb sand bag all the way in the rear of the trunk fixed that.

I had a 69 about 13 years ago. It was a rust bucket , but had a 4 speed 468 big block and was scary fast.
