View Full Version : Is 28.425 MHz the new 14.313 MHz ???

while listening to 10M this morning, I was tuning across the band and came to 28.425 MHz...

pretty much every day I can hear our old friend Todd KC4TVZ on this frequency...maybe his
VFO is frozen on that freq as I NEVER hear him any place else....

today was a little different tho.....EVERY TIME he came on calling CQ like he does, someone
or someones came on with CQ using CW plus music and just plain babble talk....but when he
turned it over to the station he was in QSO with the band was silent...:wtf:

an obvious case of deliberate QRMing......has Todd become the new Karol from up North

No. QRMers appreciate the attention (and others) given them for their efforts. They exist to be noticed. Regular calling frequencies and nets are favorite QRMer targets. Especially if there are is any controversy around a frequency.

Noticing/posting/talking about it delivers the payload, just like clicking a phishing spam link.

So now what, the 28.425 Defense League of Extraordinary A-1 Operators?

I'm always envious of Todd's signal. I believe he is using a simple dipole, yet he is usually booming into Guadalajara. Too bad the jammers can't leave him alone and let him do his thing, even if his continuous CQ calls don't agree with everybody.

...has Todd become the new Karol from up North :roll:Not yet, but if this keeps up, don't be surprised if he goes off the deep end.

I've read a lot of stories about him and his operating style (primarily against him). I have yet to run into him on the air personally; I've heard him call CQ, once in a while, and just move on (I'm not interested in participating in this little drama). So I have no bone to pick in this fight.

But, obviously, he's torqued off a few people. His expulsion from 10-10 alone is evidence of that.

So now some of The Usual Suspects have found themselves a new target of opportunity. Great. Just great. Just what Amateur Radio needs.

This will not end well.

I think the buffoonery on that frequency has been overstated, as it's not as big a target of opportunity.
The "Usual Suspects" require the attention of a bigger audience. Such as nets and ragchew groups.

He was a total blockhead and annoying everyone in 10-10, so they banned him and stripped him of his 10-10 number! I still hear him calling CQ 10-10 on the rare occasion I pass by his PRIVATE Frequency, which he evidently owns! He even has CQ tapes so he can run his transmitter 24/7 to make sure no one seizes his frequency.
I listenned yersterday a few times (THANKSGIVING) and didn't hear a peep from him. So guess he took off the HOLIDAY!

I have a receiver on the frequency now but haven't heard much QRMing. The Marconi Net used to get far more when it was in operation.

I do actually have him in the log. When I first got my tuner and was able to get on 10, he was one of the first stations I worked. I didn't find out about the other stuff until after I logged him. Didn't give me any attitude or anything like that when I worked him, he had me confirmed in LOTW, Clublog, and EQSL within minutes also.

I won't condone some of the alleged things hes done, I haven't heard it myself, but I don't really do much but stop for a moment when I'm on 10 to see if I can hear him. If I can, then I know its at least open to the East Coast and I move on.

A few of the guys around here refer to him as the Human Beacon though because hes usually always there.

As for me though...good contact, quick to QSL, though obviously if an org will give him the boot, hes obviously done things that are likely not in the best interests of the hobby. But I can't hold anything against him personally for my one experience with him. Doesn't mean I endorse the bad behavior.

Yesterday around greyline a station in Canada on 14.313 was calling CQ DX for greyline contacts. I didn't answer, and the signal sounded like it was almost on an echo mike...

I worked him once on the day I got my 10m Moxon up in the air. It was completely unmemorable, a standard RST-RST-73-73 QSO that took about thirty seconds.

Suffice to say that there are some who objected to his style of operating. Clearly things escalated to the point where he was removed from his positions in the organization, and eventually, removed from the organization. But I have no facts to give you.

From the Fall 2013 edition of the Ten Ten News:

Ten-Ten International Net Board of Directors Action July 23, 2013

After many hours of deliberation, the Board of Directors (with all officers and directors participating) passed the following motion by unanimous vote.

MOVED
That the Board, based on numerous and ongoing complaints received from 10-10 members and non-member amateur radio operators has determined the following:

1. That on numerous occasions over an extended period of time, Todd Burnette (“KC4TVZ “) 10-10 member # 60783, has repeatedly acted in a rude and unwelcoming manner toward members of the amateur radio community that do not have 10-10 numbers;

2. That audio recordings of KC4TVZ posted on YouTube and postings on other Internet sites about the conduct of KC4TVZ on 10 Meters while operating and identifying himself as a member of 10-10 are inconsistent with the purpose of the organization, as stated in Article II of the Bylaws, as follows:
Ten-Ten International Net, Inc. is an organization dedicated to assisting, encouraging, and promoting amateur radio activity on the 10 Meter amateur band, using all lawful modes of operation and embracing new technologies. Our aim is to assist in the growth of amateur radio around the world, to mentor new members, and enhance fellowship among radio amateurs.

3. That representatives of the Board of 10-10 have repeatedly contacted KC4TVZ regarding the rude and unfriendly conduct and made numerous requests for KC4TVZ to modify this conduct for the benefit of the organization.

4. That the ongoing rude and unwelcoming conduct of KC4TVZ, while not in violation of any FCC regulation or a breach of any 10-10 rule that would justify removal of KC4TVZ from membership in 10-10 or revocation of his 10-10 membership number, is inconsistent with the conduct expected of members of 10-10 who hold official positions in the organization and who, by virtue of holding those official positions, represent 10-10 to the amateur radio community; and

5. That KC4TVZ, while holding official positions in the 10-10 organization, has persistently exhibited conduct inconsistent with the mission of 10-10, and that his conduct has been detrimental to the efforts of 10-10 to expand the membership of 10-10, promote the use of 10 Meters, and enhance fellowship among radio amateurs.
And that based upon these determinations, the Board remove Todd Burnette (“KC4TVZ “) 10-10 member # 60783 from the following 10-10 positions, effective immediately:

1. Weekly Net Control operator for the 10-10 Net, and

2. Member of the 10-10 Awards Committee And Further, that the Board direct that KC4TVZ be removed from the current list of 10-10 Volunteers and that KC4TVZ not be permitted to serve as a 10-10 volunteer in any capacity until he has demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Board that he will conduct himself while acting as a 10-10 volunteer in a manner that is consistent with the mission of 10-10.

That the Board direct the President of 10-10 to inform KC4TVZ of these actions and that this action be published in the next issue of the 10-10 newsletter.

Respectfully Mel Sojka KD5DE President

I've never heard the guy on the air, so I can't comment directly, but this whole kerfluffle sounds like another exercise in manufactured outrage.

Ham seem to specialize in this crap. In addition, if we banned every consistently rude ham on HF, there'd be no one left.

yesterday during the 10-10 net, someone was playing music right on 28.425 MHz.....

a very deliberate case of QRM......

and no, I don't think it was Todd.....he was on 28.430 MHz at the same time the music was
on 28.425.....of course, he MIGHT have more than 1 radio.....

Nah, without a set of repeater cans he couldn't hear anything but himself so that's highly doubtful. On the other hand (besides 5 fingers) he could be like Timtron WA1 Henry Yell Arrr in this song about him written and performed by Huz Man WB3HUZ I wish I could post for your listening enjoyment.

I'm just a piss weak little mobile,
I've got those piss weak mobile blues.
My mobile rig's so yellowy,
I can't even blow a fuse.

I call CQ to my YL
So we could take a ride
She couldn't hear my signal
And I was sitting just outside.

I'm just a piss weak little mobile,
I've got those piss weak mobile blues.
My mobile rig's so yellowy,
I can't even blow a fuse.

All this piss weak ridicule
Is really killing me
I guess I'll sell my Gonset
And go back to my CB

If he doesn't see your callsign in QRZ he calls you a pirate and refuses to speak to you, additionally he states that "Aah cen't hear you unless you use a amplifier" even if he's deigned to reply. (Pardon the attempt at the dialect).

It's not unusual for some stations to have a quick QSO on top of him as you've already noticed.

After checking out the pictures it's plain to see what strongly impacted her life and mine too for that matter, call them reflections. We The People, famous people and there she is in the lower left corner. Two to the right, could it be Sheik Yerbouti? Then there's Laughing Dragons, they laughed at us from 1962 to 1973 knowing full well they've never been conquered by a foreign invader for more than 2,000 years. Meanwhile we were laughing along with Tom Paxton.
