I know some of you, as do I, like looking at old pictures. Some of us (Carl and Bob) were probably around when many of these were taken with an open fixed lens and gunpowder flash.

If any of you run across an old pix or sites with neat old photos, poste em here.

Great Pics Ed. I had seen the arm and torch of the Statue of Liberty in Madison Square Park (23rd St & 5th Ave, NYC). It was a tourist attraction and a way to raise money for the pedestal on Liberty (Bedloes) Island.

A later rocket that was displayed in Grand Central Terminal was a few inches too tall to stand there so someone cut a small hole in the ceiling. There was a famous picture of the terminal that was taken from the hole looking down (found!). A few years ago, the hole was found and repaired during a restoration of the constellations painted in the ceiling.

I had forgotten about the "hot pants" and "go-go" boots that the young Southwest Airlines stewardesses used to wear.

On one Southwest flight, I remember this pervert passenger who was repeatedly dropping things, like napkins, in the aisle-way of the plane. Soon, a stewardess would inevitably pass by and bend over to pick up the item. Then, this guy would just about fall out of his seat while leaning over to get the best view of her derrière. It wasn't just a couple of college frat boys joking around: this guy was seated all alone and seriously focused on his activity.

That caption is incorrect. The airline shown was not Southwest, which didn't exist at the time, it was PSA. It eventually merged with several other airlines to become US Air.

I suspect the 1962 date is wrong, too—hot pants and go-go boots weren't fashionable for another few years. My guess is that the photo was shot in the late Sixties or early Seventies.

I think you are right about that. It was PSA, the orange 727s with the little smile on the nose. I flew from Burbank to Sacramento several times in the early to mid 70s on that airline. It was like the Greyhound bus of the air. You could buy your ticket at the counter, out of vending machines in the lobby, or from the stews after you were airborne. It was really a shame when they went away. It was a fun airline.

No, that was Aloha Airlines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Airlines_Flight_243).

PSA did have a crash over San Diego, though. One of their 727s hit a Cessna as it was on approach to landing. Both aircraft crashed into the North Park neighborhood; everybody on the planes died along with eight people on the ground.

The XYL was less than a mile from the crash site when it happened and said the sound was something she hopes she never hears again.

The Hotel Dixie in the Times Square Area of NYC, now the Hotel Carter which is notorious for being on the top 10 worst hotels in the country. At one time it was a fairly classy place and you could travel to it, get out of your bus in their basement and take an elevator to the check-in desk without ever setting foot outside when you arrived.

Thanks El Pôpo. Oddly enough, the people who inspired Katrina and Bram Bones are buried in the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow graveyard, but Ichabod Crane is a New Yorker. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichabod_Crane_%28Colonel%29) He's buried in Staten Island.

I put new stainless trim rings and center caps on them last year. Last spring I put on new 2 1/2" exhaust system with flowmaster mufflers . You can hear it coming now, she be breathin' :yes:

This is the approach to Grand Central Terminal on Park Avenue. In 1875 the tracks were lowered from street level.

In 1905, tracks were added, as well as lowered some more. A street was put over the tracks and the present day Grand Central Terminal, the third one, was constructed.

In 1925, Park Avenue was a park with pedestrian mall extending miles northward from Grand Central Terminal. Not a car in sight.
