Especially seeing as a fully-decked out 897 was around that much. Although, this one does have an internal tuner that's not an option. No internal battery option though.

The ft-1200 is a more advanced radio but cheaper than the 991. How is that? I think that price is way overstated for what it is

I wonder how many of those they're going to sell at that price. The IC-7100 is $400 less and it includes D-Star. True, no ATU, but you can buy an LDG unit for less than $200.

It's an odd price point, for sure. It's expensive enough to price out the people who might dabble in VHF/UHF all mode, and the hardcore rovers would use transverters anyway. No satellite capability, so it doesn't take over the TS-2000's niche.

Icom sold roughly a bazillion 706MKIIGs, and yet there's no current radio out there that's a direct replacement for what it did. Did the ham world change that much since 2000?

Still have the FT 100 here, so I'm covered.

If I was going to spend that much $$, I'd get the KW TS590. But then, as has been pointed out to me, that much moola will go a long way towards remodeling the bathroom.

I wish Yaesu would release a waterproof 20w, detachable head version of the FT-817ND. I would be sorely tempted to buy half a dozen of the things.

Now that would be a killer rig, IMO. However, the problem is hams today seem to want nothing less than 100W, and seem averse to operating anywhere but their home...

I have a problem with it as the HEAD isn't remoteable

The company that really dropped the ball on this one is Kenwood. They came out with the TS50 (and then the TS50S which was apparently the exact same radio). They had complete control over the mobile HF market long before Icom came out with the 706 and Yaesu... well they have been playing catch-up ever since.

From what I remember (mind you, I don't even remember what I had for dinner last night!), the TS50's were tremendously popular at the time so for the life of me, I can't figure out why they decided to turn their back on this segment of the market until they came out with the TS-480?

I don't know - Elecraft's selling a bunch of KX3s...

The TS-480 is a fine rig...mobile or shack. When I go portable I take the TS-450SAT.

Having an '83 Corsair, I always say it's awesome. Wouldn't mind another KW TS 570D. Had one. It received well on every frequency you put it on. AMBCB and LW. It was nice on the ears too.

The Corsair is good. But general coverage is a good thing too.

I had a '63 Corvair. Fun, but the receiver only covered about 1200 kHz.

Nice setup. And like Riley said -- you should just "turn the big knob" to steer clear of a bad neighborhood. Ever get a QSL card from Ralph Nader?

Kind of the standard Maine Coon uniform. That's my buddy Milhous, rescued off the road at work 6 years ago. Damn funny goofball, clumsy except when hunting. Eighteen pounds of spoiled rotten purr.

My maine coon thinks I exist to serve food and as semi permanent resting place.
Quite talkative as well, loves to play rough, ending in me bleeding all over the place... bloodthinners are messy.... as are sharp cat nails....:mrgreen:

Dogs have masters, cats have staff. Where dogs are involved cats are the masters.

Here is the Main COON I saw at the San Diego Cat Show! This was the biggest PUSS I have ever seen, about the size of cocker spaniel! Penelope is big but only 1/2 the size of this cat!

this cat wouldn't fit in our litterbox!

I had a tuxedo tom a few years ago that was 25lbs of solid muscle. He thought he was a dog. Followed family around just like a puppy would.
