According to today's FCC Digest, the license for David Titus KB7ILD has been revoked.

He was found unqualified to hold a license, as a convicted sex offender.

Good. A person who solicits children should not be operating a radio on a service where he is likely to encounter children.

I read the document. And the footnotes.

I have no doubts that the FCC made the correct decision here. Now, if the state ever determines that he is no longer a danger and actually has been "rehabilitated" (if that's even possible, in this situation), fine. But until & unless that ever happens... fuggedaboudid.

Considering how sex offenders are viewed by their fellow inmates I'm sure that already happened. A year in the slam (sic) is quite enough time for some serious rectal enlargement.

"In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous."
Law and Order: SVU intro.
Apparently the FCC wholeheartedly agrees.

Show me where these children are. Apart from the BSA JOTA and possibly Field Day, I haven't heard one on the air in many years. They're too interested in playing on the computer, their smart phones or Playstation/Xbox to give a darn about some antiquated communications means.

Tell that to the revolving-door judges who keep letting them walk...but will hand out life sentences for downloading music or movies.

You may go to the restroom Eddie.

Already did. That's my morning routine. I wake and then I take a piss. Then I get out of bed. I'm going to have to work on that a bit.

So if I'm reading this right....he had a license well over 10 years before they decided to move to revoke it?

Thats really effective.....

I know they take each of these cases individually, but there is some inconsistency. A local ham here, a man in his 80's, was convicted of diddling some of his grandkids. But he's still on the air. I don't know if there are any actions pending, but he was reported to FCC several years ago when the story hit the newspapers. I think the old guy is senile, and will probably be gone before FCC can do anything about him.

At the risk of being contrary, did any of you google this guy Titus?

He was convicted at 11, 15 for indecencies against a minor. He was convicted at 18 again for a "Perverted Justice" crime, ie immoral communication with an 11 year old. He did have an abusive childhood and realized he was gay at age 13.

According to W5YI, he had 10 character witnesses at his original hearing including cops and clergymen. He's run a repeater in the Seattle area on 440 with no evidence of any contact with children. He was changed to "high risk" offender status, for bullshit reasons. This guy is now 40 years old with no incidents since he was 18.

The decision busts the guy for 1. late filing and 2. offenses committed when he was a juvenile, an early juvenile at that. Without any further input, it appears this ruling is unfair.

I thought juvenile records were sealed at 18. I also have other problems with this. How many times does the guy have to pay for the crimes committed when he was kid AND there is no evidence of further recividism? No one produced any evidence of further crimes. How many other crimes in other cases have been explained away because the offender was "just a kid"?

Obviously, no one has patience for child molesters and neither do I. Chronic molesters are menace AND do re-offend. This guy hasn't re-offended. Getting caught in a public toilet with a fake badge makes him guilty of whackerism. If Whackerism disqualified hams, we'd lose half the ham population.

The key for this case is he has beaucoup character witnesses. Cops, CO's, therapists, clergymen etc.

It's fundamentally American to forgive and forget. Granted, we may not have the whole story. But based on what I've seen, I think this revocation is kinda bullshit.

I thought juvenile records were sealed at 18.

I don't think that's the case anymore. violent crimes ain't going to be sealed and IIRC lower crimes can be but you have to go to court to get them sealed. the days of auto seal on 18th bday been gone long time now.

In NC (along with many other places, I'd imagine), being under 18 isn't even a guarantee not to be tried as an adult, either...

That's not peculiar to NC at all. I have a real problem with that as well.

Does anyone have the same judgment as a teenager as they do now? NO.

No indeed, although it could be argued that I should have been locked up through my teen years. I was a little asshole punk.

(And, no, Eddie, I'm just an asshole now, not a punk—and no longer little either).

no, but as for sealing the records, I think it does need to be a case by case.. low level stuff should be sealed. but if a kid has killed someone or committed violent robberies it shouldn't be sealed.
