That type of pressure shock wave is similar to the type of effect you see in those old time movies of atomic bomb tests done in the pacific ocean in the late 1940's......correct me if i'm wrong,but wasn't that called a Wilson condensation cloud effect? :-?

The Wilson clouds are the ones that form rapidly and then quickly vanish. Particularly noticeable in atomic blasts done under or on water I.e high humidity. They are a type of condensation cloud. They can also occur when very high amount s of conventional explosives are detonated.

Exactly! ........ the shockwave from that eruption caused a condensation cloud that radiated out from the eruption point.... a Wilson cloud effect. Also you can note a similar effect from the wings of jet aircraft as they impact moisture laden air....... still it's neat stuff! :yes:

From all the leading edge surfaces as they approach supersonic speed, for that matter. I saw this demonstrated at the Miramar air show a few years back as an F-16 flew by just below the speed of sound.

Agreed.... I saw it as well even in warm, supposedly less humid air,in the Fraser Valley with CF-18 fighter jets doing their demo's at the Abbotsford Airshow in August....... neat! :yes:

Yes, but what you see in the video is a different phenomenon.

Not to be confused with the Wilson Cloud Chamber which is used to trace particles as they are emitted from a radioactive material. Although the traces are tiny condensation clouds formed in a chambre containing supersaturated alcohol vapour. The emitted subatomic particles cause the vapor around them to ionize forming a tiny and very narrow condensation cloud.

BTW I stand corrected. The OP's original video did produce a Wilson Cloud. Not as dramatic as the ones produced by the Operation Crossroads Baker atomic test but still a Wilson cloud. When I originally viewed it I was watching on a small smartphone screen and it wasn't noticeable. But re-watching it on the big screen it is definitely there showing that volcanoes and conventional explosives can produce a Wilson cloud.
