Seems that during the Bastille Day celebrations down in the city, they gathered a bunch of Vintage French car owners and organized a parade. Some oldies but goodies were there. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any Renaults or Puegots.

What follows in the link is two+ minutes of Gallic Motorvehicles from a time past, courtesy of the NY Times.

2 CV4 and 2 CV 6 es can still be seen here as daily drivers, had one 2 CV6 with 20 HP myself once.
Peugeots and other oldtimers can be seen here as daily drivers as well, mostly imported from Algeria or South of France, Spain etc, less corrosion etc.

I thought you could only see French cars from the rear, as they receded rapidly into the distance...

Eh.

I've seen better.

About 12 noon on Sunday, I will again. Patron's Parade, PVGP.

In the 70s, down South, they were called Ray Nawlts and Pew Gits.
Sometimes, Pew Gots.

Every time someone mentions Bastille day, I think of the Rush song.

My German Grandfather had one of those big Citroens. It was so poofy and cushioned in the inside with padding and airbags you felt like you were riding the living room sofa. My Grandfather loved those things but he occasionally did call them "Zitrone" when they got him down. Might be the car that first coined term "lemon".

I once had the opportunity to drive a Maserati Bora for a day. The hydraulics were all Citroen and the brakes definitely took some getting used to—the brake pedal looked like a big steel mushroom. Weird.

Oh. THAT Rush.

Never mind, then.

Only the best band on the planet!
I quit listening to the other rush years ago, after realizing how silly he was.

We were in Iceland 2 years ago and rented a Citroen subcompact. Even though it was a was a turbo-diesel I thought this was going to be a real dog. Boy, was I wrong! It had incredible pickup and outstanding mileage. The only way you would know it was a diesel was when you filled up.

Then we went to Scandinavia and rented a Peugeot 608 (I think) which is their top of the line luxury station wagon - also a turbo diesel. What in incredible car. If they sold them here, I would buy one!

Vive la France!

Most European car makers learned a long time ago that a small block even Diesel, doesn't mean you can't engineer some decent power out of it ;)

Matter of fact my Renault 16 TX from 1971 I had in the 1970's had just 1700 cc's and had a very decent acceleration and 200 KM/H top for that time quite respectable, even when it was relative heavy for the electric windows and other gizmo's being the top line of the Renault 16 car line.
Same for the Peugeot 405 with 2 litre engine, never a dull moment with that one.

Just the 2 CV 6 was slow, as expected with 20 BHP, so I changed the engine and drivetrain including gearbox for the 1.1 liter engine of a Citroen car out of the scrapheap, no MOT in these days, now that made a difference ;)
Must have been the fastest 2CV6 on the planet, leaving skidmarks on the pavement accelerating and topped 170 KM/H the old engine did with wind at the back and down a slope max 100....

One of these days I've got to drive a Citroën DS 23. There used to be a half-dozen in my neighborhood when I was growing up. That and a Porsche 911 Targa Sportomatic.

Both would be almost useless here in the mountains for at least 6-8 months of the year.
