Wish FD was in full effect here. 15m is so dead that I decided to surf the Island for a while to allieviate the boredom.

I'm stuck with the in laws at the moment. Patiently waiting to get home so I can head over to NASA for furled day with CLARC/K5HOU. I may make my first HF contact tonight!!!

I was thinking of doing a road trip for FD, but it didn't work out this year. Too much other stuff to keep me busy. Maybe next year.

I rode the bike out, fully loaded for the first time with all of my radio gear. Popped up in a park nearby, and worked a few contacts over the course of an hour and a half or so. I was constrained for time, though. Kinda wish it was a two day event, as tomorrow would be much more open.

So there wasn't much going on last night when I got there. Just a few hams, and a few visitors from other cities. I met the CLARC club president, and some of the members from the Johnson Space Center Radio Club - W5RRR. One of the visitors from out of town showed me how to pick up SO50 on 436.800/795/790 as it passed over and I was able to pick up K5COW from Fort Worth. THAT was an experience! I wasn't able to try my hand at some HF, but I didn't ask. Everyone seemed busy and no one offered, but I also haven't paid my club dues yet either. But I did get to watch them make contacts all the way from North Florida, to Western Washington, to Western Penn. I can definitely say that I'm not a fan of the contesting thing though - everything moves so fast. All they were getting was Call signs, class, and location. That western PA station wasn't even calling CQ.

Anyway, seeing all that HF stuff got me really excited about getting an HF radio and some kind of antenna. I REALLY can't wait to get on HF. I think I'm going to contact my very red, republican, war veteran neighbor and see if he'd volunteer to show me a few things in his shack. He's got a nice medium sized tower and only lives about a block away. We've talked on the air a few times, but I've never stopped in to introduce myself.

So here's a few pictures of CLARC's (K5HOU) outdoor setup. They had antenna's out in the grass, but it was too dark for me to get pics of it. And the inside stuff is the Johnson Space Center Radio Club's radio room. Both clubs operate of of the Gilruth Center on the NASA campus.
