How many of you have travel trailers?

Make/Model/Length?

What do you have it outfitted with, radio wise?

I have a travel trailer, but it doesn't fit those criteria...

This is the only kind of trailer I'm really familiar with:

The YL and I have been talking about this. We're toying with getting a small used one.

The coolest camping spots are hard to get to, and 16-20' with clearance is what we're thinking of.

Around here, a lot of people restore older ones, and they can be pretty nice.

I keep talking about it, but that's what it is - talk. I probably wouldn't mind a used one, but not an OLD one. I'd look very carefully at the way the top is constructed. Some tops are a solid piece that wraps around the sides, so no water can get in - there are no seams. Others have a seam up each side that will trap water. Eventually, those seams will leak. The same goes for how they installed air conditioners, TV antennas, etc..

I went temporarily stupid years ago and bought an OLD motorhome. It was very cheap, and if I'd only looked a little deeper, I'd have know why. It cost me quite a bit to get it on the road, with new tires, and some other work. But we took it on it's maiden voyage down I-35. Somewhere in Oklahoma, my son said 'look up there, Dad' and when I gazed at the right front corner of the vehicle, all I saw was blue sky! Over time, the seams on the roof of that beast had leaked, rotting out the wooden frame underneath. I put it back together with lots of duct tape and and some clamps, well enough to finish our trip and limp home. The dealer, fortunately agreed to fix it, and the thing spent the whole summer in his shop being rebuilt. After, it was decent if not attractive.

The next trip was to Canada, and up in the wilderness, the engine threw a rod. I should have just left it there, but instead, I repaired it, for much more than I paid for the thing!

This vehicle was a 'Mallard' so you know we had to call it 'the Ruptured Duck'.

Anyway, for what I paid into that monster, I could have easily rented a nice new RV every summer since.

Very aware of the construction issues. Which is why I wish could afford an Airstream.

I rented one of these for a week once. It worked well with my little Ranger pickup.

Wowzers. Put some frilly dingleballs and fancy curtains around it, and it could be used as a MC pulled hearse.

We have narrowed our search down to a Jayco X17Z, Jayco 238RB, or a Gulfstream Kingsport 20QBG.

The 238 and 20QBG are 24 and 26' respectively, but the X17Z is an expandable. The trailer is only 17 or 18', but the front and rear walls open up for the expandable tent beds.

Whatever we choose we'll be buying it in two weeks.

I've heard their version of horror stories too though....

We're buying new, but we are trying to stay around $10-$15K. These days you can get a lot of trailer for that amount.

These are supposed to be towable by a motorcycle. Less than 500 lbs and only a 90lb tongue weight.

Caravan = Trailer (with accomodation). Same thing generally, different language.

So why does Jeremy, Richard, James and most of the UK seem to have a problem with them?

Mrs. My Wife wanted one of those. Don't get me wrong, she's a good driver but ..... I think people should take some kind of training before pulling anything behind a vehicle.

There's some type of double entendre in there with a smattering of innuendo. I can just sense it. My Spidy senses are tingling.
