Well, NOT dxing!

As for the combo of full moon/friday 13th...the casino is full of insane asshole! Devie is just doing her job and these people are screaming, no shit, actually screaming in her face. Calling her a fucker, a mexican, stupid, etc...because she charges them for coffee. Throwing money at her, being rude and sarcastic for no reason. Complete tards! This is an everyday thing for her, but its been really pronounced this week.

I was just thinking that bad enough it's Friday the 13th, and people will be acting out, but to add the Full Moon on top of it? The loonies will be having a field day.

Sounds like Vegas was much more civilized back in the 19th century during the days of the old "wild west" than it is today.

Sad to say, yes. Its not like we had intended on packing up everything, selling our great house and moving as far from here as possible (and still be in the US). This is only the tip of the iceberg...and its gotten worse over the last couple of years. Its getting downright insane here. People are acting insane, i dont get it. Out on the street, in stores, in the casino...everywhere! Wow!

As for DXing, im actually hearing Antarctica, New Zealand, Japan, etc on 30m...things are coming in. I just worked C6ATT so i guess its not the worst i've heard it.

No, the loonies field day is about two weeks from now.
Today just draws out all the assholes in society.

Surely not what I wanted to do.
But at least I did not have to work overtime today. Plans were to clean up the shop, work on a Yaesu FT-401B, then mow grass. Then if had time do a few projects in the shop. And maybe play with my brand new hot air rework station.
Not going to happen.
Had to take my wife’s car in for service. Then took my car in for state inspection, then pick up new tag.
Now have to take my best friend to the vet. He is very sick this morning. Appointment at 2pm. The day will soon be over. And my wallet will be empty....

you might consider New Mexico.....quite a few casino's.....with her experience, she's a natural for Mgr/Asst Mgr position.....and you could
still live in a dry climate....+ we have lots of Mountains to play in.....and green chile....and the sequel to Breaking Bad is in/will start production....

I know it sounds like I (we) complain a lot about this place...we certainly do! But we always have the future plans in mind over all else. Once we have started the truck and have Las Vegas in out rear view, our troubles here are done. Our main goal is to get out of here in one piece. Once we do that, its happy trails ahead! :)

I appreciate the info. But i think casinos are a thing of the past for us. She already has a business plan that doesnt involve people...we are both uneasy around large groups of people (strange for what i do, i know). Management would be a death sentence for Devie, even though i know she would be awesome.

As for the rest...one of my singers is from Santa Fe. Its where i first learned to appreciate really Hot food! NM had a cool vibe to me, and we would like to visit there before we leave, but i think the desert is done for us now. We havent caught up on all the Breaking Bad, so no spoliers!

Just got in from looking at vehicles. Every seller said the same thing. "Friday the 13th, huh? Full Moon tonight, huh?
Not much for solar flares today although there may be an aurora visible in the Northern climes.
The police on the other hand, everywhere I went I saw them flying but no lights or sirens.

So that must mean all hell will break loose tomorrow.

At least in the 1800's you might see an occasional gunfight... Well at least in the TV/Movie versions of the Southwest. In the 1950's you could have watched the atomic tests going off way in the distance at the test range. These days it sounds like it's all been replaced by crazies...

I would like to visit the southwest. But as for a place to call home my heart is set on the far northern wilderness.

Interestingly, Las Vegas wasn't around in the Wild West days.

On May 15, 1905, Las Vegas officially was founded as a city, when 110 acres (45 ha), in what would later become downtown, were auctioned to ready buyers.

The City allegedly built it's first casino by the mob in the 30s.

On July 3, 1930, President Herbert Hoover (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Hoover) signed the appropriation bill for the Boulder Dam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Dam). The dam was later renamed the Hoover Dam during the Truman administration. Work started on the dam in 1931 and Las Vegas' population swelled from around 5,000 citizens to 25,000, with most of the newcomers looking for a job building the dam. However, the demographic of the work force consisting of males from across the country with no attachment to the area created a market for large scale entertainment. A combination of local Las Vegas business owners, Mormon financiers, and Mafia crime lords helped develop the casinos and showgirl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showgirl) theaters to entertain the largely male dam construction workers.

And the city as we know it today was really started in the 40s by Bugsy Seigel.

A bit more here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Las_Vegas)

Interestingly a couple of decades ago I was thinking of moving there... I can't say New York City is any better these days. Once in awhile, even up here the crazies get loose. I never saw the Gadsen flag in real life until I saw it here on some Teabaggers lawn. They are a very small minority though and have little success. The area is fairly Liberal.

Staying on topic:

Actually 1905 was sort of the tail end of the "wild west" days. So it can still fall into that category. And yes, during the heart of the "wild west" days of the 1800's Las Vegas was not the "hot town". And, as a point of interest, the hot gambling game of the "wild west" was not poker, as seen in the movies, it was Faro.

This place was very 'shoot-em-up' back then. We had the Arizona Club downtown, a block from the Golden Gate (which is still there, operating as it did in 1906). Just to the east of downtown was the actual spring, its still there, but now part of a conservation project. The Spaniards used to come through here as early as the 1820's, a few sections of the actual Spanish Trail still exist, but it was the mormons and ranchers that started it up. The railroad came in, then it was a land grab. Never was there peaceful intent here. The place was founded on robbery, undermining and making ghosts.

But you know that whitey!

Where that came from ... ? Enough innocents have given their lives already.

Well, in Wiki, Lost Wages tops the 'Sin City' list although there are more. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_City_%28description%29) One of the more notorious 'Sin Cities' was Port Royal, Jamaica. One day just before noon in 1692, an earthquake destroyed it and sent it to the bottom of the Sea. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_royal#Earthquake_of_1692_and_its_aftermath) I always found that interesting myself.

I can relate to that—we've been renovating the M-I-L's side of the duplex over the past few weeks. Noting fancy, mostly just plaster (no drywall in this house) paint and flooring and we're still a grand over budget.
