And of those cities destroyed, NYC has been destroyed at least 34 times.

A series of infographic maps exploring the variety of ways movies have decimated our nation's most populous cities shows that directors have a strong bias against New York.

Deadspin's new home for "culture/food/whatever" has served up How Hollywood Has Destroyed America. Because New York City is the center of the universe, it obviously clocked in at 34 apocalypses (apocalypsis?)! You may be surprised to learn that gigantic monsters are responsible for the most NYC renovations (nine), including a dramatic attack in 1957's The Giant Claw:

Gothamist; NYC Has Been Destroyed 34 Times. (http://gothamist.com/2014/03/19/new_york_city_has_been_destroyed_34.php)

For a more in-depth look, here is the original story. They missed Superman 2, Hancock and I Robot.

How many times have you seen New York City destroyed onscreen? Los Angeles? Kansas? For nearly as long as there have been movies, there have been disaster movies. The map above shows 189+ such cinematic attacks—using a very broad definition of the "disaster" genre—that have afflicted various parts of the United States. Below, you'll find each category listed as its own map, with an accompanying movie list.

Not only has Hollywood destroyed America, it's destroyed geography as well. For example, the scene from The Graduate where Dustin Hoffman, supposedly traveling from LA to Berkeley, is shown driving west over the Bay Bridge—towards San Francisco and away from Berkeley. That sort of thing happens a lot in movies.

It looks like if I stay away from Minneapolis, this part of Minnesota should be safe, even from Godzilla.

If you watch the reflection of the TV in a mirror...................oh...never mind

I understand that the new Godzilla destroys a lot of places...including Las Vegas. ;)

Early on New York was the movie capitol run by the Mafia and Jews couldn't get jobs. It didn't take long before they moved west and built their own industry in an obscure Los Angeles neighborhood, Hollywood. Now as Hollyweird they get revenge by destroying New York more times than Japanese rubber monsters at Toho destroy Tokyo. A couple of years ago sharks destroyed Sleazeside Heights, NJ and a few months later sandy finished it off.

Just for giggles I watched Jersey Shore Shark Attack and I'm still wondering whether the sharks or Nookie and the gang did more damage. All things considered, neither Jersey Shore nor Jersey Shore Shark Attack could have damaged that place's reputation any worse, which is why we call it Sleazeside in the first place, not even the Benny Guido squids they represent, but the things that live there.

As for the movie, you know Sy Fy Channel originals stink on ice but it's so stupid it's funny when sharks ram the Fun Town Amusement Pier shaking the Ferris wheel loose and it rolls toward the boardwalk squashing the Chief of Police. Meanwhile the greasy squids jump in boats at a nonexistent marina and chase the sharks shooting them with M-16s. If you want to for some strange reason watch this schlock you can make popcorn, just keep a vacuum cleaner handy to clean the mess you'll make on the carpet.
