Nope. We can only reset them.

Since they VBulletin on the otheer site and i'm admin on a satellite based site, no admin has access to passwords.
They can reset them and use another pass to look into your data there but then you have a problem logging in there.
All my passwords on sites are different though.

Now that everyone knows, just enter it backwards, no one will figure it out.

Good times.

Use caps, alphanumeric and punctuation (special) characters in all your passwords. 8-character minimum.

Use NOTHING which can be gotten out of a dictionary. There are a number of online dictionary files available which one can use to check for the existence (or absence) of your password or username.

They're what all of the cool THC-Hydra/Brutus kids are using.

... 8-character minimum.....

I have tried using DocGrumpyHappySleepyBashfulSneezyDopeySnowWhite, but those 8 characters in the password are pretty long when you think about it.

you mean my pass 12345 isn't good enough? No. And while you're at it, please change the combination on your luggage.

...and I see Jim already said that...

Semi-funny story. At work, we implemented stronger password policies, and a password-storing secure app (RoboForm, although there are many good ones). One of my jobs was doing the training classes.

I used the Spaceballs reference.

Someone actually complained that was inappropriate.

To my boss. Who is also a Spaceballs & Mel Brooks fan.

They're what all of the cool THC-Hydra/Brutus kids are using. At work, the network now requires we change passwords every three months. No password can be reused right away (only after 10 others). 8 character minimum. It has to be a combination of any 3: Upper case, lower case, numbers, punctuations.

As hams, though, we should EASILY be able to work with that. For example: I previously used (and will never use again) RCA.6146w and EIMac.8873 .

There are LOTS of tubes out there... and tube manufacturers...

01A comes to mind. I like the random stuff. I remember random junk all the time. Link to place (https://www.random.org/passwords/?num=5&len=8&format=html&rnd=new) Take those and throw in an asterisk or two and away you go. The key is your memory. What can you remember? What is so much you will forget? You don't want something you have to write down. But I have different passwords all over.

I figure just use "incorrect" for a PW.. That way when you enter it wrong, the website tells you "Your password is incorrect" ;)

So you're saying "1" or "x" is probably not a good idea? Memory tends to strain here at "11" or "xx".. :p

Comfortably remember? I'm neither comfortably nor can I remember, now what? It happens over there, so do I have to worry about the new flood of refugees from the swamp hacking the Island and messing with me? Nah, they're not smart enough to figure out why Gene STILL sticks his tongue out at them.

We're probably over-reacting JUST a touch (although strong passwords that aren't shared amongst multiple sites is more than just a good idea).

After all... there's no need to fear. Underdog is here!

Using very strong passwords on multiple sites is no fun without a program to keep track of 'em.

LastPass works with smartphones as well, with a subscription at about $100/ year. But the basic one is freeware.

Used RoboForm for a long time, long ago. Like NT and Win2K days. Shenanigans with the free version and their applet called Gator soured me.

Google has a Texas Two Step password system to opt into. That way, you can use a cinchy password and then have them text you a 6 digit code to enter into your account. The 6 digit code can be for 30 days on computers you know that no one else would be on or have it per session when you are on someone else's computer. Anyone can hear your 6 digit code because it will never be used again.

Then don't lose your phone.

GET A PASSWORD MANAGER. that's what we're talking about here. you don't have to remember them all. you just have to put them somewhere where others can't snag 'em. For a handful of passwords keeping them in a spreadsheet isn't an awful idea (although you want to make sure nobody else gets to that spreadsheet).

there's a way out if you do lose your phone but it's not pretty. you get a bunch of one-use codes that you're supposed to print out and store somewhere. these codes help you recover ...

I use KeePass Portable. Keep it on the flash drive on my key ring with my car keys. I just have one master password to remember in the event I forget one of the other passwords. I always use different passwords for different sites, at least 8 characters long with at least one number, one uppercase letter and one special character.

I've been using RoboForm since it first came out, and have never had any issues with it. It is a nice and easy password program with extra features that are real timesavers.

I've tried several others and didn't really like any of them. If Norton password manager is still around, avoid it like the plaque. I know others that use Keypass and Lastpass, and they like them, as well. I've just used RoboForm, trouble-free for so long, I see no reason or need to learn all the features a new one.

As an alternative to using "1" or "xx", I used a base password. Something memorable but nonsensical like C4r5h1t.

Then tack on the name of the site it's for using the first and last character. i.e hamisland becomes hd. Then just use a shift code in each direction. "C4r5h1tjb"

Not NSA proof, but (knock on simulated wood) have yet to have anything hacked.
Also use this for WoW, and hackers are always banging away on those accounts.
