View Full Version : 160m SSB contest in less than 9 hours.
Who's playing?
I still have to rework the matching network on my coax loop RX antenna today. Hopefully, I'll get it done before the contest begins.

Another contest?!?!?!?! Oh man, I'm gonna really lose it this time and go on a one man crusade on qrz about the evils of contesting and how it's going to ruin the hobby and cause the apocalypse to happen.. And it's all Obama's fault...
Just kidding :) hahahaha

Thinking sbout to give a fw points away :)
I like trolling a contest thread, but since I've recently trolled numerous religion threads and a couple of technical threads among the know-it-alls on da Zed, I think I'll just keep my trap shut today and may even get on and give out a few points as well.

My 80 meter NVIS turnstile survived yesteday's near 50 mph winds.
When its 4 wire feeders are tied together, it's an umbrella vertical on 160.
Be looking for you. :)

Place your bets as to whether or not I have a 160m TX antenna come contest time. SOAB.....

Well, the 160m TX antenna is still up, I got the matching network mounted back on the RX loop antenna, and everything seems to be working OK. Only problem? Static crashes from the T-storms are a major problem.
The contest, however, must go on..... and it is. ;)
Where are you calling?
I'm not. I'm strictly S&P.
I gave up an hour ago. The static is just too much. I'll check back after 0400z.

S-9 QRN here, but worked about a dozen in a half-hour or so.
I'm calling "CQ contest" right now, on 1939 (year I was born). ;)

Well I don't hear you there, but that post was a bit ago. I've worked about 50 folks so far.
Getting some nice 7 land contacts. Get em' while they're hot! haha
This would be a lot easier without all the static crashes....

All of Europe came tumbling down from 1820 to 1880 ( where we are allowed to work 1810 - 1880) so gave a few points away here.

Worked a dozen stations off my CQ's in about a half hour
(including a KT4 in SD who gave up trying to get his suffix to me). :(
Had to QSY owing to adjacent channel QRM.
Noise was S-4 to 5, with S-9 static crashes.
Worked 51 so far, in all but the 6 prefix.
Got 3 sevens: WA, OR, and N7GP in AZ.
W1AW/8 in Michigan answered my CQ. :)
Stay tuned.

.
Got me 139 contacts in 37 states, and 2 Provinces.
Plus 2 Mexicans, Cuba, and Cayman. :)
With my bad hearing (diplacusis), it's hard to distinguish between
such phonetics as ALPHA and DELTA, ECHO and X-RAY. :irked:
The reason I'm mostly found on CW nowadays.
