They call it Red Star. It's Linux-based but the latest version bears a striking resemblance to a certain other operating system:

OS X, anyone? Details here. (http://www.computerworld.co.nz/article/537360/north_korea_goes_osx-like_new_operating_system/)

I saw that, and tried giving it a go on my machine... Couldn't locate an image.

Might be tough unless you speak Korean. Also, you can bet there is a barn door-sized back door built into it. You want Kim Jong Il reading your e-mail?

Well, one of the reasons I want to get my hands on a copy was to find the backdoors, and publish them on Freenet.

Seems unlikely that they'd release the source code. Or do you think you can find it in the binary?

Yeah, I'm glad I live where the gub'mit doesn't snoop on me...

There's some ways. Trolling the binary files, fuzz testing it, faking out it's network connections, etc etc

The last time I did any serious fuzz testing, I got my hand slapped.

North Korean spies at work and eggheads copying comes as no surprise. It looks like monochrome on this monitor, black and red. Oh, I found the image for you, looks like Mrs. Kim.

Good to see Fox News is thriving in NK.

Yeah, a rather old Live Leak production never seen in NK. The trouble with an old leak is it's now empty, no humor. Oh well, it fits the thread anyway like the much older Angry Red Planet monster.
