Jean was cool. I remember him on PBS specials. And of course, he was a "Killa Hamster".

The cast came to a showing of the movie at the Riviera Theatre in Tonawanda last week. We were gonna go but somehow ended up not.
Awesome; thanks for posting.
My pleasure.
Got interested in Shepherd by his column in Car and Driver in the early '70s. Then I saw a few of his movies. Oddly enough, I never caught him on radio being more interested in Rock at the time.
A clip from another film of his...

I remember hearing that exact broadcast live back in the old days. In those days I didn't know much about ham radio other than the thought that it is something I'd probably like. I like his description of the exam questions back then. I doubt very many hams around today could even begin to answer those questions. Does anyone even know what a tetrode or a triode is these days ? Or a cathode follower ? Or a push/pull configuration ? I remember trying to cram that stuff into my head in my high schools days while, just like Shep, ignoring my school work... LOL.

You should get your Extra.
I grew up listening to Shep on WOR every weeknight. My older sister, though, had a nasty habit of "telling" on me for listening to the radio instead of going to sleep; she always was a pompous snitch.
Even met Shep once, at a book signing. Don't remember too much about it, except that it was my brother's book, and I haven't seen it in decades.
Even heard him on the air, once, as K2ORS/1 from his cabin in Maine. By the time I got the HT-37 warmed up & zero beat, though, he'd signed with the other station and disappeared. Oh, nutz.

I know I should. For the last several years ham radio has been on the back burners here. I could use the extra frequency privileges. And all I need do is take one more multiple choice exam. I was recently invited to come to the next local repeater club meeting by a ham who attended one of my recent orchestra concerts. once there I'll probably be more inspired to go to the next VE session.

Was he on CW or Phone ? I heard he was an avid CW operator.

Of course Shep was a killa CW hamster, I wrote plenty about it and how he spent his feckless youth, told his stories on WOR and his Shepherd's Pie TV show on PBS before. When in doubt see my signature line. As for the rest of the cast who cares? What matters is the characters were spoken of in his radio stories... FLICK LIVES! If you have any doubts remember EXCELSIOR you fathead!
