Fine with me. I prefer shorter days and longer nights. I get depressed and irritable in the summer when it's hot and we have long days. It will be interesting to see how I manage when I move up to the Yukon Territory in a few years. There I will have to deal with "polar night" in winter and "polar day" in summer. But I should be seeing some fantastic auroral displays on a frequent basis.

Both Devie and i are wired for that. I get no joy from hot, sunny days. I love night time and colder weather. Especially rain. The entire year i spent in Seattle, it rained a lot! People were depressed, but i was thrilled every day! They kept telling "Yeah, do a few weeks of this straight and see how you feel about it"...weeks came and went, i grew happier. They said "Wait a few months"...same thing. I was more depressed about moving back to the hot, dry desert. We cant wait to leave!

I love long dark nights as my other madness... er... uh... hobby is astronomy.

Ohio sucks in the wintertime though... :(

We made the trek to Alaska last June, and it was my second trip there. The first time I went there, it was in late August. The nights were still very short, but at least, there was still night. This year, the further north we went, the less sleep we got. The natives in the Fairbanks area say they don't sleep much at all from May-September. It wasn't so much the sunlight that was the issue, it was the heat. When the sun never sets, you don't get the nightly cooling off, and the heat just keeps building. Of course, the first time I was in Fairbanks, it was 102 the day we arrived, and the following morning, it was 32 and snowing. I thought we had temperature extremes in Minnesota... not. I think if I was in Alaska, I'd hibernate every winter.

That's what Pizza deliveries and Chinese food is for. I had a case of agoraphobia for a few weeks after a long sickness and that's how I survived until I faced that fear.

If you can get any food delivered up where I am talking of. If you live in or close to one of the cities or towns it may not be a problem. But if you are in a fairly remote section of the Yukon or Alaska getting a pizza or Chinese food delivered may take a bit of doing. Delivery man might make better time if he has an airplane with skids or a helicopter. LOL

Not quite yet. They still use smoke signals, and you know how long getting a fire started in the treeless tundra can take.
