Same one I've been going to for the past 40 years

11043

Just a few of original CB'ers present, mostly family and friends and, each year, they take inventory of who's still around and who isn't. Two of us out of the 200 who were there are Amateur Radio operators; we still managed to have a good time. The beer and the dinner was included in the price of admission.

Three of the "Hardcore-still-stuck-in-the-70's" operators continue to "Grudge" over whos' CB mobile is the strongest and they spent their time "Politicking" with the people who wear their Tee-shirts and, challenging their nemesis to bring their multi-kilowatt mobile stations out to shoot out in the parking lot (yeah, they do that and interrupt the audio system and music inside the venue :scared::scared: ).

Me, I was escorted by four of my daughters, they go every year:

BTW, I look 10 times better in person than I do in that picture, can you say "Deer in the headlights?"

After 40 years it's still nice to see that it can still be done with those "swinging watts" ...... "rapping on the CB radio in the van....... with a big 10-4 to the trucking man"

They got looks from you, brains from mom and that's sayin' something. Yup, marrying you was a smart move on her part. Back in the day I went to coffee breaks from taking over a local diner on the spur of the moment to big, organized events where CBers came from several states and the local radio station covered the event. No shootout but the 25W 25MHz FM Marti remote link caused a little intermod in some of the cheap mobiles. I've got to say I had a LOT of fun back in my CB daze and learned a lot too, my geeky friends and I studied radio and did a lot of experimenting so you can say I cut my Amateur teeth on CB.

Back in the day (1996) we had Channel 35 picnics. Even did an 11m foxhunt once. All mobile.
Then some guy shtupt some other guy's wife and that group became history. Still have 2 friends from that group. One you know, one I did a little bartering with recently. Scooter stuff. Nothing personal but we don't even use 11m on the road anymore.

Well I don't use CB anymore... period... so what's personal about it? For what it's worth I got a kick out of that 40 year retro stuff, I remember the turkey was White and the jive turkey Black because the Black ones spoke Jive. I don't speak it but have no trouble understanding the Harlem dialect. Sheee... After all, I grew up with it so I had no problem understanding channel 18, Mother Ship, Crock Pot (the slooow cooker) and the gang. BTW the jive turkey on the flyer is some coo shee, reminds me of Blacula with a beak. So what's this about no firearms? How can you have a shootout without firearms?

Oh hey, just remembered something retro. Here's a puzzle, is this Japanese a jive turkey or a space turkey?

...So what's this about no firearms?

Alcohol was being served, Firearms (State Law) were not allowed on the premises.

Back in the 60's and early 70's they used to have a weekly Coffee Break somewhere in Flushing NY. In those days most of us used to work on our own equipment and do a great deal of experimenting.

Hence the name, Flushing. Appropriate, no? :stickpoke:

They shouldn't have called it "Flushing". Then they wouldn't have had those problems. I noticed the article you posted was dated 2003. Arubnd 2002 they built a sewage treatment plant in or near the Flushing creek. Wonder if that was connected to the stench that permeated the subway.

Actually I think it got its name from the Dutch settlers. They named the river/creek that runs through the area as "Flushing river" and appropriately the area Flushing,.
