Run for the root cellars, not Eddie's.

Just saw the footage from a couple of places. Chicago looked like night time, literally. Another spot looked like a bomb went off, literally.

Stay safe 9 landers.

So anyway, it's headed east and WOWK 13 out of West Virginia just got this footage in.

It's only on FB right but I'm trying to find it elsewhere. It really looks bad. Piles of TOOTHPICK houses but they look like piles of TOOTHPICKS.

Washington, IL is pretty close to Stanford, where Janet lives. I hope she's okay.

I figured something nasty was gonna happen. When i saw the call for a sudden temp drop from spring-like back to winter i sensed that there would be trouble. Hope everyone stays safe.

Pictures are coming in. My FB feed is blowing up. Everything looks like bomb went off. Some places look like an atomic bomb went off. TWC is saying that this is worse than what their models predicted. They didn't expect THIS MUCH energy in the area but energy it got.

Yeah, we really got lucky up here in Rockford, IL..
I was watching radar and keeping the spotters that were deployed up to date..
We got off pretty easy, nothing major, a tornado warning in the county next to us, but it didn't last long..
As soon as spotters really got anywhere near where the tornado was supposed to be it was gone...

Reed Timmer from storm chasers was even chasing in Illinois today, I guess the midwest area was the hot spot for weather today... He normally doesn't chase east of the Mississippi, he will from time to time, but not often...

I hope everyone effected down in Washington IL, and other area's hit get through this okay without too much loss or severe injuries....

Several bowing segments with a few embedded mesos headed my way. Saw the leading edge of this system off to our northwest as we were driving back from Wooster, Ohio a short time ago:

The front is expected to pass through eastern PA and into NJ in the early morning hours Monday. WX forecasts vary as usual, I put them in a blender and come up with a rainy, windy day with a storm here and there. I don't expect the mess that's happening farther west as I write but batten down the hatches, thar's gonna be a blow.

The wind sounded like a freight train about 2:30AM! loud enough to wake me up. Nothing like what happened west of here, but for two minutes it sounded like a freight train was outside.

65°F today! 12°F tomorrow night. Saw the pix of tornado damage out west. Hope everyone made it out okay.

Glad everyone made it through OK.

The winds came through here early to late evening. My fiberglass flag pole cracked, that was the extent of the damage. I think I can handle that...

Very severe and intense winds here around 4:00AM. Sounded much worst than hurricane Sandy for about 2 minutes. Severe thunderstorm warning and tornado warning was up at the time.

Hi Jerry:

We got some good old fashion wind storms here in Stanford. Lots of blown over trees and a 16 hour power outage.

Needless to say, we bought a generator today.

Have to admit, it was creepy hearing that tornado warning go off while the wind was blowing at 70 mph. Spent some time in the basement!

We thought a lot about you yesterday. Pam was asking me. I said it looked like it was a ways away from you. So glad to hear you are okay. Also it is a double whammy on you coming from such mild climates to areas of total destruction.

Hope you two can stick it out here.

Keep the door to the root cellar open.

Well... fortunately we passed through okay here. was rough between 3:00 - 5:00 am yesterday but aside from some severe gusts and very heavy rain and hail, no damage to speak of. I guess Sandy blew down all the weak trees and branches last fall.

Glad to hear everybody is OK. Those things will scare the ever loving shit out of you. We live in the area that tornadoes usually come through (they start in Tuscaloosa and follow the interstate). I lived in Huntsville AL when the tornadoes, back in '73 came through. I was on Monte Sano mountain watching them chew up the city, they got Ohio that night too. The latest was the April 2011 tornado that destroyed parts of Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. I was standing in my driveway and watched one pass by, about 5 miles away.

One thing that I use is NIXLE, they send texts to your phone and let you know if your local EMA, EOC, police, and a multitude of other agencies are sending out any watches or warnings. These usually come several minutes before broadcast TV or radio announce it. You can get it by texting your zip code to 888777. It's free.

Cyclone at Sardinia kills 17 people.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24996292

If you doubted the chances in weather around the globe, think again.
At least 17 people have been killed in flooding prompted by a cyclone and heavy rain that lashed the Italian island of Sardinia.
A number of people are reported missing after rivers burst their banks, sweeping cars away and causing bridges to collapse.
The worst-hit area appears to be in and around the north-eastern city of Olbia.
Prime Minister Enrico Letta has declared a state of emergency, speaking of a "national tragedy".

We haven't seen a situation as extreme as this, perhaps for decades - especially because it's been across the whole island."'Apocalyptic'
Reports say flood waters in some areas were up to 3m (10ft) high.
