So, I get an email from my brother yesterday.

This is almost earth-shattering news. I hardly EVER hear from my brother. Usually, we hear from my sister-in-law, but she's cut back on her email in favor of Face(Palm)Book, which I'm not on (though the boss is).

I knew that they were looking at moving out of their allegedly cramped apartment, somewhere in London. Obviously they've gotten something, because he sent along their new snail-mail address. With the cryptic note "How are you? The llamas arrive tomorrow"

So I asked. I figured this had to be slang for the movers, or something like that...

Nope. He tells me that they bought a farm. And they're going to be raising llamas.

Llamas?

Now, my brother has done many things in his life. Some of which we know about. He's worked as an assistant engineer on two tourist steam railroads, been to sea with cargo ships (and be shot at off of Africa), been a book dealer, an art dealer, his first wife was a bit of an avant-garde performance artist, art instructor at a University, internet radio DJ... not that I should talk, mind you, but it's been an interesting journey.

Llamas?

In England?

All righty then...

We had a llama farm down the road from us but they really didn't like the outcome of the 2012 elections so they closed up and moved the animals to Idaho.
Personally, I'm a Vicuna man.

Our neighbors had a bunch (herd, group, skein, troupe) of Alpacas, but they started to die off for some reason. They sold what was left of them, and got mules instead.

Ya know, I'll bet it's hard as hell to knit a mulehair sweater.

What the blazes can you do with a llama in England anyway? Eat it? Sheer it for wool?

I just don't get it.

Did the llama sale include hip boots, per chance?

There is a society just for llamas and the lovers of llamas in England.

Yep You got it. Llamas are prized for their wool. They produce a soft , fine wool that is considered by many to be far superior to sheeps wool.

Llamas have excellent wool, better than sheep... and they are good pack animals. Fairly popular here in Colorado... I've gone hiking with other folks and llamas. They are interesting critters, and make decent pets. They'll spit on ya if they don't like you, or what you're doing.

I'll take your word for it as I've never been intimate with him.

Looks like today's population demographic in jolly olde England, one White, one Black, three Browns and one that can't make up its mind. (;->) Who WAS that masked llama? He's the Lone LLama! (Cue the William Tell Overture.)
