I got the same error message today. Once in a while servers go down. Wait a few days and it'll be back. Don't panic.

I wouldn't say I was in a panic. It seems it's an alignment of circumstances for me.

I hadn't booted the Linux partition in about a month and a half, and I thought maybe something had gotten hosed. Now I know that's not the case.

the medibuntu project has closed down & servers turned off a couple of weeks ago....

you need to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list & remove all references to the project
per this thread:

Yup, I saw this a few days ago and was surprised. Not a big deal, but still surprised. My hard drive on my laptop died two Fridays ago and I have now switched to LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition).

downloaded & installed Linux Mint 16 development release on the 15th....so far
working great after usual hacks for wifi & Audacious music player codecs...also
had to get rid of that horrendous video driver Nouveau....when are they going to
admit defeat & dump the project ??? installed nvidia-current & all is well...

anyone else using it yet ???

Yup. I put a new SSD in this laptop last Saturday and installed 16. It's fantastic.

Haven't tried mint in awhile. I use Fedora and Win 7. Windows plays nicer when I have to bring my work home with me. As for mint, I have never been able to get wifi to work, no matter what I try. Fedora only took a couple of minutes. Maybe when I get back stateside I will try again but on my desktop. This laptop is very picky.

Both Ubuntu and Mint seem to have issues with Broadcom chipsets. I usually check which Broadcom chipset the wireless may be using by issuing the 'lspci | grep Broadcom' command from a terminal to see if there is a Broadcom chipset present. This old Aspire 5000 machine, for example, returns the following:

luke_b@Acer-Laptop:~$ lspci | grep Broadcom
00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
From there, I go off on a Google search for solutions. In the case of the BCM4318 chipset (particularly difficult in Ubuntu), the default driver had to be replaced. Also, in the file '/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf', I had to actually remove this particular chipset from the blacklist, which seems to be the root of most problems. Look for the following line, and add a "#" character at the beginning to make it a comment:
blacklist bcm43xx
#blacklist bcm43xx

The specific site I reference for this particular chipset is here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/55868/how-to-install-broadcom-wireless-drivers-bcm43xx

A bit of a hassle, but this method has never failed me. I'm sure it works exactly the same in Mint.

At the moment I am happy with Fedora on this PC. As I said, I'll have to give it a shot on the desktop when back stateside. Though, my driver set is atheros. That aside, I am awful with things such as terminals and such.
