Lately, I'm concerned at signs that ham radio is beginning to attract younger, forward-looking folks with more varied interests, lacking traditional ham values.

Hey, I know this won't do any good, which is why I've been posting it places frequented by those already licensed, in hopes of perpetuating a sense of grim resignation.

Not to sound like a curmudgeon, but I am so in this camp. We tend to try and sell this hobby to anyone who will listen, not just those who are interest in electronics, or radio, or propagation...it IS changing the hobby. What were once rather isolated incidences of somewhat intelligently funny ham antics, or the isolated eccentric with no people skills, are fast becoming a tired chorus of idiots who just don't know how to act in public and really don't give two shits about Amateur Radio, its culture, or the rules surrounding its use.
