A 20 year old Brooklyn man died today when an rc helicopter he was flying went out of control. He was fatally lopped. The accident is too gross to discuss in detail. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Losing your finger to a prop, I would have expected, but a head... I'm glad I'm into RC Model Submarines. The worst that can happen is that you lose your virginity if one sneaks up behind you in the pool.

I have many RC choppers , planes and trucks. I don’t think this $2000 helicopter is a “ Toy “ anymore than the US drones are toys. If the guy had put on a DIY missile launcher, ie “Toy Rocket” , then it would have gone from a ” toy " to a WMD !!

You are correct, a "toy" doesn't lop heads off. It was a 700 size electric. That is pretty big, although they do get bigger. The blades on a chopper like that carry incredible momentum. The largest size I fly is a 450 electric and believe me, that could cause some very serious injury if it hits you. Most of the time I fly a smaller 250 size electric around my driveway or in front of the house. The 450 is too big and risky for residential operation. I use that on a large field.
