Ah, she's all wet.

Congrats to her; an amazing effort of endurance and courage. No shark cage? No thanks.

She walked into the room, turns to her team, and yells... "WE FUCKING DID IT!!!" LOL!!

The CNN news anchor was like "we're sorry, we're sorry that went out, we're sorry!" LOL

Take THAT FCC! LOL!!!

I wonder if she had to show her passport when she got to Florida.

I still think she was smuggling Cuban cigars to the US.

Amazing alright but not entirely unfamiliar. I uses to know two male counterparts, both fit as fiddles and strong as oxen. I have no idea how or why a fiddle is fit but anyway... the first one I met was Howard "Zeke" Meyers, Zane Grey's boat captain, one of several celebrities I met through CB back in the day, another was Tina Louise. No, not some fantastic skip to Florida or Gilligan's Island, Zeke lived about a mile from me in Rahway, NJ and Ginger was visiting her uncle in Bernardsville on a break from filming the TV series. The second was the (in)famous Irb W2VJZ I met for the first time during one of his rare ventures away from 3885 AM as he wandered around the farm with his 2M HT. 5W FM into a rubber ducky goes surprisingly far when you're up on a mountain ridge and Irb went surprisingly far on his 2 wheel 10M mobile, a 250 mile round trip into Pennsylvania in one day was just a walk in the park for him.

I was puzzled for a moment, I remember Cuba being 90 miles from the US but then it dawned on me, that number was drummed into my head as the Cuban Missile Crisis unfolded and is now obsolete. In 1982 the Florida Keys seceded and became the Conch Republic so now the distance is 110 miles.
"Crowds of fans, cheering and blowing conch shells, waded into the water to greet a sunburned Nyad as she approached the shoreline of Key West just before 2 p.m. with a Coast Guard escort after nearly 53 hours in the Florida Strait."
Actually no, they blew a warning that she was within the 3 mile territorial limit without a passport and the USCG was escorting her and protecting her from the famous rotten tomato attack they experience on April 23, Conch Independence Day.

Diana Nyad, interesting name! Diana; Roman goddess of the hunt, Nyads; daughters of Poseidon, nymphs who presided over bodies of fresh water. NYADS, the now defunct New York Area Delivery Service. So that's what keeps her fit, she's a huntress and nymphomaniac truck driver with muscles out to THERE!

Because they never bow to anyone or anything.

What I fail to comprehend is why people have to throw in the "F" bomb out all the time. It sounds cheap and it cheapens the quality of the conversation or statement Only time I ever use the "F" word is if I am extremely angry and even then I often don't use it. I try to avoid it.

That's a good question. I wish I could answer it, but it beats the fuck otta me why.

Because sometimes "darn it" just doesn't cut it.

Take THAT FCC! LOL!!!I'm pretty sure that spontaneous outbursts are considered non-violations nowadays.. and also, I don't know how/if that applies to a cable broadcast.

Imagine the furor if there had been a wardrobe malfunction with Diana's swimsuit upon her reaching shore...

Sometimes, language is like a Tom Waits song.

It isn't pretty, it isn't something that presents itself well in company, but sometimes just nothing else will do...

Her? Meh.

Dara Torres? Awe yes.

It is interesting how long the human body can remain in a competitive state for long-endurance events, though. The same thing happens with ultramarathon runners - as you go out in age, the differences between women/men level out, and there really isn't as much of a falloff in performance as you'd expect.

For short events, forget it - youth is king (getting smoked by 14-year olds in a 5K isn't fun, believe me).

Yeah but passing them up on mile 20 is fun. Actually, I have only run a few marathons, and don't remember seeing kids running. I did pass up a pace team of high schoolers that maybe thought 13.1 miles was the same as 5K. It must be a blow to the ego to get passed by a fat guy. I relished the look of shock, and confusion of the faces.
