IKR? The TT Argonaut disappointed me with the lack of a few things, including three bands but its price makes it much more forgivable than this.

I would be more likely to give them $500. For the price they are asking I could get both an Argonaut VI and a KX3. You may give up 8-10w but you gain so much more.

I assume estimated from QRper and eham. From what I have read the estimation given at Dayton was 1500-2000. IMO even on the low end it is more than a bit high.

My thoughts as well. It seems that they are pushing it for use with "high end amps". Not looking at it from a QRP point of view, the loss of more than a few bands is a big "ouch", imo. I see 80-15m which means that 60/12/10/6m are missing. Looking at it overall, it looks to me like they are nearly a decade late to the party with a few modern spins. IE: IF out and touch screen. And that last one is a stretch. Where as touch screen technology is nice in the palm of my hand it is cumbersome on my desktop. Much like windows 8.

OFC, this is only my opinion.

Frankly, you can find a used TT Argonaut V for around $800 - 900, sometimes even less, and that gives you everything this rig promises PLUS 160, 30, 12 and 10 meters. (And I think TT made a tactical error in omitting 12 meters from the Argonaut VI)

I agree. 60m no big deal and I could live without 6m as well. As for me personally I wish I could combine the KX3 and the new TT as they each have features that the other doesn't and I like said features from both. As I only play from my desktop the K3 is the logical choice but that is a lot of cash if going the QRP route.

Not QRP but the Eagle and TS-590 put me in the same boat. On one you give up IF out and on the other you give up a dedicated RX antenna port. Both of which could be remedied but that is beside the point.

In the end most if not all rigs are a compromise in one form or another but that Palstar is just one compromise after another. Well, for me anyway.

I'm all for the Argonaut V. Might be cheaper like $600 to $750. Best little all purpose desktop ham station!

And I don't know about the '7000, but the 706MKIIG went omnomnom on any battery it was connected to :snicker: Learned that lesson the hard way at Field Day one year.

The 7000 is no different. It's not the radio I would use in the field without an endless supply of 13.8VDC. That's why I have an IC-703 for QRP and battery operation.

It isn't the lack of bands that throws me off, it is the estimated price. On the low end it is 3x more than what I would be willing to pay for such a rig with its given options.
