I picked up this gem on Saturday for 2 bucks. An old Lafayette practice code oscillator , mounted on a piece of wood , with a straight key. It might make for an interesting project this winter.

Work your magic, George.

Looks like they made it out of left over transistor radio cases.

I thought I read once that you were not a code guy. That is a cool find for the money.

That would look nice in the box that nobody knows what the hell it was for, that you restored, and put on the wall in your garage. Yes, that was an awkward sentence.

Try some Novus #2 on that face plate and see if it takes off the oxidation and makes it look like NEW! Also works miracles on the Bakelite box.

I have to be very careful, the lettering on the face plate is already coming off in spots.

Gah, infernal beeping! :spin:

Kind of interesting how they didn't just reprint the dot-dash table like everywhere else, but used the sounds instead...almost like it was written by someone who knew what they were doing ;)

OK, then forget the Novus. If the lettering is poorly screened on, the Novus could take it off. Guess U will have to keep it AS-IS

Oh, I dunno. Clean it around the lettering as much as possible. Than take a very good picture, clean the hell out of it.

Re-etch the lettering on the panel, kinda like when we used to make circuit boards.

Or, leave it alone, as it has an interesting patina, flyspecks, and all. ;)

It is, back in the day Rat Shack, Laughing Yet, Burnedstein Crappleby and all the rest were the same store or hadn't you noticed?

I think I'm gonna go the patina route. All of the plating is peeling off the key. I'll Just take it apart, clean it up, and knock the rust off with my trusty wire wheel.
