Right--so baby boomers and their grandchildren. Makes you wonder what happened. Radio interest skipped a generation. :squint:
Edit: Well, there is a range in the generation. So I suppose it could be a mix of both.
Hum..on second thought. I just looked it up. 1946-1964. I guess my grandfather was pre baby boomer. Seems I was off base. However, my parents are post baby boomer. I guess my family didnt want to contribute to said generation and waited a few years.?.? Lol.

Right but what about the latter generations. They were pretty much born with a PC in their hand. I suppose many could be like me. Everything is computers and video games so you look for things that predate you. That or it has more to do with exposure than anything. I guess my final option is the most reasonable.

Some of us were early adopters of computers. I started using computers by writing FORTRAN programs on punch cards which were run as batch jobs on an old IBM mainframe. Later I got into more "interactive computing" on machines like the PDP-11, DECsystem 20/TOPS 20, and the VAXen running VMS, Lisp machines, etc. But I knew a few old timers who date back to the days when computers were run on vacuum tubes.

It's good that he takes care of himself. I think if most of us old bastids knew we'd live this long, we'd have taken better care of ourselves, too.
Nah, when we were young, dumb, and full of cum, we'd still have partied like there was no tomorrow. We were invincible.

What "motivates" me to do such things is a fairly conservative work environment. Long and boring back story there, but in a nutshell: Remaining gainfully employed is more important to me than partying my ass into the nearest correctional institution.

When in Iberia, do as the Iberians do. Check out the Bulls at the local Coliseum. Or maybe some football? Is there Bocce there also? I hear my "ancestors" in the north play bagpipes and wear kilts... Sounds like good healthy exercise to me. ;)

Most people in my region do not support Bull fighting. Running of the bulls is considered too dangerous in most areas as well. Neither of which interest me. One reminiscent of serial killer training and the other seems like a death wish. I have watched a few football games but much like other sports it did not hold my interest. They have Petanca, Bocce is Italian. I play it now and again with the family on the weekends but I would not watch that on TV either, lol.
The one advantage to football is the already cheap cost of food and drinks bottoms out. Particularly during the selection. We are talking 50 cent drafts that come with a bite sized sandwich. Also, I played football (read soccer) in middle school for 4 years. I like playing sports from time to time just not watching them. I have never understood the appeal. To each their own.
Back to bull fighting. Two major regions of Spain have banned it and many have simply abandoned it, deeming it cruel and unusual. In other regions its interest, both domestic and foreign are depleting. However, what seems to be growing in interest in my area is baby bull fighting. They use a small bull and capes only. IE no harm comes to the bull. This version I may watch once. But slicing, stabbing, lancing, etc for a rise just doesn't do it for me. I realize that it is a part of the culture but not one that I can willingly support. I can understand killing something and eating it but not torturing it. Or simply killing something for sport. I have similar feelings about hunting. As in I do not support sport hunting. However, that is another story for another time and one that has already been covered by me and many others.
I know, I am boring. :P

Seriously, that shit was the first alcohol I ever tried. 3 16 oz. cans. Warm. I was sick as a dog. Never Again.
I thought Malt Liquor was no big deal because of the cutesy Colt .45 ads.

I've never been big on bullfighting myself. It seems to be sadistic and I'm not into that.
I agree 100%. Harassing and/or killing animals just isn't my kind of entertainment.

Exactly how did we get from "how old are you" to the demise of bullfighting???
I think that if we were all on a group road trip in one of those huge Ford Econoline passenger vans, we might never make it to our destination... LOL

The first alcohol I ever bought and drank was Bombay Gin. In those days you had to be 18 to buy alcohol and although I was 18 the guy never carded me. When I finally got around to drinking it I was on summer vacation and I poured a glass and drank it in one big gulp. After a few minutes I could feel it but the high wasn't satisfying enough. So I poured another tumbler full and drank it. Still after 15 minutes I wasn't satisfied. So I poured a half glass and gulped that. Then after about another 15 minutes it all hit me like a ton of bricks and I was totally stoned.
I'll never forget the time I made my own booze by distilling an old jug of wine. The wine was pretty well oxidized but I didn't know and what I got was mostly wine vinegar with a little bit of alchohol and a lot of ketones concentrated by distillation. I drank it the last day of high school before graduation. It made me a little high but also put me into a semi stupor. This girl gave me a ride home and after I was home I got sick as hell. My stomach heaved out as much of the toxic poison as it could get rid of.The rest was in my bloodstream. Took about three days before I felt normal again. So ended my booze making career.
These days I rarely take alcohol in any form.

Surprisingly I didn't do too bad. I did get a hangover but I don;t remember it being particularly bad. The worst hangovers I ever had were from drinking beer or cheap wine.

You only get hangovers when you stop drinking for the day, night, or whatever. I found the best cure for a hangover many years ago. I quit drinking for good. Of course I'm no fun to be with any more, but my wife tells me, I never was.

I tried a bottle of Wild Irish red. Wild Irish red left me feeling like I wish I was dead. Felt like a pick axe was lodged in my brain and like my stomach was on fire. Boones farm is probably just as bad. Yeah, you must have some maso tendencies if you would still drink them. These days I rarely take any wine, beer, or liquor.

True. Alcohol is not a drug it's a poison. I used to drink as a medicine it to control my anxiety. Now I handle it with prescribed drugs that are better suited to treat anxiety without the toxic effects of alcohol. It's odd how our society promotes a poison but prohibits drugs that are far less toxic.
It is the most happily consumed poison out there. I never touch the stuff. Im not better than anyone, it has absolutely nothing to do with that, i just cant imagine going back to drinking.

In my opinion, and in the opinion of many doctors, alcohol is the "hardest drug" there is. It is also the most damaging to the internal organs, i.e. liver, kidneys, digestive track, brain, heart, etc. . In my younger years I tried various drugs (as did many people of my generation).. Stuff like marijuana, cocaine and heroin. None of these drugs ever produced more impairment of judgement, breakdown of clear intelligent thought, and/or ever made me feel more miserable the next day than alcohol. In fact with most of these other drugs, aside from changing my mood (more relaxation, more energetic, tranquil, euphoric, etc.) I was able to think quite clearly and quite rationally with little or no impairment of judgement or perception. Now I am not trying to say that using drugs is good. There are serious issues with addiction, withdrawal, over dosages, health, etc. I firmly believe that if one can get through life without having to rely on a substance to change the way they feel then that is probably the best way to go. There are also potential legal issues and risks of imprisonment due to illegality and prohibition. But side by side I would say that alcohol is one of the hardest and most toxic and destructive drugs out there. And it is physically addicting as well with extremely severe and potentially life threatening withdrawal symptoms. People in the rehab profession have often said that the worst and most life threatening withdrawal cases they have seen were from abrupt alcohol withdrawal. Far worst than abrupt heroin withdrawal. Yet ironically alcohol is the drug that is legal, advertised, sold, and even encouraged in our society while drugs like marijuana are condemned in the name of the "war against drugs".

Did you know that the "Most Interesting Man in the World" character is performed by the guy who scattered Fernando Lamas's ashes at sea and his accent is based on that of Lamas? Me either, until today when I stumbled upon it while looking for a photo of Lamas to use in your llama thread.

He also runs a charity that works in Vietnam to remove old landmines, unexploded bomb ordinances and helps people who have lost limbs to old bombs recover their mobility with prosthetics.
Missed that particular detail, although I did see he does a lot of charity work.
