I discovered the Anytone AT-5888UV yesterday. It has everything an FT-8800R has, minus a few memories I think.

But I'm wondering, what kind of risks are you taking with Chinese made radios? How much are you compromising for those great prices?

We had my Wouxun ADV-P1 on the spectrum analyser and to my surprise it was clean as a whistle 10 dB better as the required supression of harmonics.
Audio clear and crisp more sensitive as my Icom Q7 or Kenwood TH-F7 E too.
That was the first one that came out, they are now on version 5 i believe adding stuff as they go and prices dropping.
For the price they are cheap and cheerfull, use and forget if it fails, kick it in the dustbun and get a new one and still be cheaper as one Yaesy/Icom?kenwood handheld.

The Wouxun uses the Yeasu speaker mikes, has more audio power out as the Icom or Kenwood, good for noisy environments like fairs i use it for.
The provided 1750 mA Li Ion battery will keep up the whole 12 hours i use it on the fairs and then some more.
Desk loader will recharge it in 2 hours flat if empty or recharce the spare battery i have extra, these are also very cheap.

Do a search on the net or find a google group ( if there is one) for more details.

Depends on what you want to do with the radio. Chinese rigs are disposable at their price point and are nice for the ham on a tight budget.

I went with waterproof (IP67 rated) gear because of the climates which we use ours in. Thus, the VX-6, VX-7R and FTM-10SR were logical - albeit more costly - choices.

If the Chinese companies come out with a cheaply priced waterproof mobile along the lines of the FTM-10 but with 6 and/or 1.25M added to the package they're going to sell a lot of them.

Plenty of controversy, with a little less overt hatred? :chin:

I haven't used (or even seen, other than in pictures on the Web) the Anytone mobile rig but the cheap Chinese handhelds have a pretty good reputation.

One of our locals ordered an Anytone- and I haven't heard from him since. The local dealer does carry them, though. It's a nice looking rig.
