No, not a troll. Between the heat and humidity I was being systematically driven crazy by computer related questions and issues today. I am not geared for hot weather. Extended heat and humidity makes me very irritable and anxious. I am wired for cold weather not heat.

Heat and humidity can also cause unpleasant chafing in ones underwear resulting in irritability as well.............. Just an observation.

That would be the medical terminology for a chapped ass? Right?

Isn't that what you guys down there in the South call "The Red Ass?"

I always heard it referred to as a case of the red ass, but why the hell would one need a whole case? A sixer of red ass would last me a lifetime.

Too bad you can't apply that to the kids, and then stick them to the wall for awhile.

I've been on vacation for less than a week and everyday I've been shuttled from one computer to another. I am really beginning to hate these things.

How many times do I have to tell you to use the right tool for the job?

Well, that will solve the age old question... "It's 10:00pm, do you know where your children are ?".

Years ago, when we were in Chinatown in SF, we bought some stuff in one of the stores. The owner used an abacus and his hand flew like the wind. He came up with the total faster than most can on a calculator. Very impressive.

A glass of water carefully poured on the power supply of your computer will solve this problem. Preferably with the machine off and outside. This will convert any working computer into a doorstop.

Besides, computers are all but passe. Even notebooks, laptops and netbooks are going away. Tablets are the new computers. - With "The Cloud" hard drives are forecasted to be superfluous also.

I highly doubt notebooks, laptops and netbooks or even desktops will be going away any time soon. While tablets are nice , I've used them, there are many reasons where a laptop / or desktop is superior and makes for a far better workstation. . The "cloud" is great for data and apps you need to access anywhere. However, it's not a new concept. In the old days we called it "timesharing". However, there are many reasons why localized storage is still desirable. For one you may prefer to store sensitive data locally as opposed to on the "cloud". Furthermore with localized storage you can still access apps and store and process data in lieu of an Internet connection. If my Internet connection is severed (and it has happened on rare occaisions) I can still run local apps and process data. Not to mention running a local server. No doubt the "cloud" is great and for some users it's all they need. But for many users localized storage is still essential and/or a better alternative. I think a combination of both is the ideal compromise.

I don't trust putting my stuff on the cloud, besides, there's nothing quite like losing everything on your un-backed up hard drive when it crashes. It gives me that rare opportunity to use my "specialized" vocabulary.

If that projection is right, Tablets should be outselling PCs right about now. (Shameless graph with crossing dotted lines.)

TABLET SALES ON THE RISE, TO SURPASS PCS BY END OF YEAR (http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/tablet-sales-on-the-rise-to-surpass-pcs-by-end-of-year/)

Power Down: Tablets Are Crushing PC Sales (http://www.cnbc.com/id/100632389)

Interestingly, I have a faux-tablet. The Nook is meant more for reading and less for browsing but I can still do Word/Excel documents, email and about 90% of what a notebook will do. Resolution is nearly as good and it plays movies faster and better in Android OS than in Winders.

Yes, there are a few things better about Notebooks. A real QWERTY keyboard is one main one, but that is small potatoes to portability and reading a book or watching a movie on the train.

This old lappie ( ACER Travelmate 7720G) wilol see a replacement this year with another 17"lappie.
Need a decent size screen and decent keyboard, since this one is mostly used to type posts on a forum etc.
Can't say that a 10"screen will do, even with a keyboard connected to it...

I have to say that with the high resolution of the Nook, movies are pretty enjoyable to watch even on the 7" screen. It's bigger than a Galaxy or iPhone, so when someone shoots a gun, you don't see a puff of smoke coming from a hand.

Yes, the chart is accurate. However, laptops are not included in "PCs", only desktop machines are. Laptops are outpacing tablets still in sales, as well as desktops.

I am not surprised that tablets, laptops, etc. are outselling the PC. People like the portability and the many advantages they have to offer versus the staionary PC with separate monitor, keyboard, etc. However, it depends on exactly what you need it for. For me, the PC lends itself nicely to things like developing programs, web projects, research work, etc. Actually a combination desktop PC and a laptop or tablet is best suited to my needs.Another useful combo for my needs is my main desktop PC (workstation) and the ability to access my desktop PC remotely from my laptop or tablet and there are times when I want to manipulate data, access notes, and/or run programs on the workstation PC while I am at remote locations.

It largely depends on exactly what you need it for. For most people a laptop, a cloud based small netbook, or just a tablet is more than adequate and much more convenient. And I agree. Videos and movies look great on the tablet. A tablet is also great for music. Instead of paper sheet music I can put the tablet on the stand displaying the music and play it right from the tablet. No need to fumble with sheets of music, lost sheets, etc. Plus is I need a hard printed copy I send it to the nearest network printer. Instead of turning pages I simply scroll or jump to the next page. When I am at home I also do this on my regular desktop PC where the music is displayed on screen. Our conductor also uses a tablet. As he conducts the musical scores he uses are displayed in his iPad and he just scrolls through it. And one more advantage. It eliminates the need for a music stand light when playing in dimply lit recital hallsor concert venues. The lighting from the screen in plainly visible so you can see the music no matter what. Plus you can shrink it, enlarge it, etc.

Then of course there are those all important moments in my life when I need to abstain from any and all technology. Like when I am enjoying the beach, or out on a walk, or enjoying an urban setting. At those moments the grass, the trees, the sky, sun clouds, water, pavement, buildings, etc. are all I need to be contented and happy.
