You just like it because of the locker room scene.

But this has ALWAYS been my absolute favorite movie.

There are those who'd claim that The Boat Movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120338/?ref_=sr_1)(as my daughter first dubbed it when she was very little) is the #1 movie of all time.

But to me, the measure of a great movie is this: Do you feel obligated to watch it when it appears on the boobus toobus... and do you enoy every minute of it, even though it is as familiar as the back of your hand? A movie that you can quote from almost without thinking about it... and most everyone recognizes the quotes.

There's only two movies that fall into that category in our house. But, why am I asking you (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/?ref_=sr_1)? (That's going to leave a mark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094012/?ref_=sr_1))

I can quote Top Gun forwards and backwards and I don't even have to be watching it.

Tried to watch Top Gun once, got about forty minutes in and turned it off in disgust. Tom Cruise couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

Funny you should mention that, I've never been a TC fan either. In my opinion, what made the movie was the flying and the music, but that's just me.

I always wondered what that movie would have been like with a young John Wayne as Maverick. He is an actor that can make a great movie from a shitty script, whereas, Cruise tends to do just the opposite. Again, just my opinion. And we all know about opinions, huh?

"...the #1 movie of all time ever made..." is redundant and Tom Cruise Missile is wearing woman's lipstick from 1955. Anthony Edwards was alright as El Ganso though. (;->)

I saw the first release of Das Boot in German with English subtitles, somehow I like it more than the second release dubbed in English.

As for my vote for the number 1 movie, Forbidden Planet. It had quite a few firsts and a legacy, many props were reused in The Twilight Zone which was filmed by CBS at the same MGM studio location in Culver City and an episode of Lost In Space. It has a number of "Easter eggs" like the id monster having Dr. Morbius' goatee (it's his "evil self") and is a visual pun of MGM's mascot Leo the lion. Aside from all that it made quite an impression on this 7 year old kid on the big screen at Radio City and their ass kicking stereo sound system. Yeah, one version used a synchronized magnetic sound track.

And who ever figured Martin Milner would go from having Robbie making him hooch, to becoming Mr. Route 66 or Adam 12?

Das Boot is a really great movie. I like it in German, with English subtitles.

I'm not a big movie buff, but if pressed, I'd say Brazil is at the top of the list.

Here's a great dark humor scene from Brazil. Harry Tuttle (not Buttle) is a favorite hero of mine.

DOS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113133/?ref_=sr_1)

Try watching most movies in Spanish because most channels don't have multilingual settings. That aside, I am not a fan of the movie. I'm more into low budget cheese Si-fi movies.

I'd hazard Cruise's character was the bottom at first, but then at the end, became a power bottom.

Nobody, that was Earl Holliman. Martin Milner wasn't in the movie but Marvin Miller was the voice of Robby the Robot (uncredited). Adam 12 made an Easter egg appearance in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Now what was an LAPD car doing on the Golden Gate Bridge? Hmmm............

Brazil, got to be the screwiest movie I've EVER seen! Well, Terry Gilliam was a founding member of Monty Python and his other works include The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen (1988), and 12 Monkeys (1995). Captivating theme song too.

"That aside, I am not a fan of the movie. (Top Gun) I'm more into low budget cheese Si-fi movies."
You and me both! Japanese rubber monsters, flying '58 Buick hubcaps and a giant lizard that pukes all over Denmark (Reptilicus)... don't forget the Giant Gila Monster that derails the same ATSF train with four different locomotives four times (;->) and eats the passengers. Don't tell anybody it was a Mexican Spotted Lizard (can't tell yellow from orange in B&W) because the Gila Monster is poisonous. We can never forget poodles all done up as Killer Shrews! YYYAAAaaaaaaa..................

No it wouldn't, one PD to a station or you'll end up in a 4 way fight, the 4th being the DJ. Here's a hint, free form radio is the best radio, no PD and the air staph plays what they want to play, now two tastes in music are alike. Viva la differance, viva la France, viva Las Vegas.

That was my first car. A Canadian built version with a 2 bbl Holley carb on that aluminum I-4 engine. Could do 106 when the regular would blow it's engine at about 90. Ran it into the ground after a few years.

Interestingly, according to a race Car And Driver had with the Vega, Pinto and a big bunch of rice boxes, the Vega won beating out something like 2 dozen other cheapos (Japanese too). Wouldn't mind having the Yellow Submarine (there was more water in it after a rain storm than on it) now but it was hard to drive compared to todays cars.

The Yellow Sub had the steel sleeves in the cylinders and so the cylinders were safe. The body wasn't though. It was totally biodegradable and rusted from slightly to pretty dreadfully. The rear leaked copiously enough to affect the handling somewhat. It was a good performer though. There is a spot on Ave U in Flatbush/Mill Basin that flooded during a downpour one day. In front of me was a Lincoln Continental, a Cadillac and a Mercedes Benz. The water came up to the bottom of the windows, and they stalled trying to go through. I drove in, going around the stalled cars and managed to get through which astounded a cop who was calling for a tow truck. It might've been a lemon, but it had it's day. :)

I do wonder what would've happened if I blew the horn while it was underwater...
