This is really sad. Getting killed trying to break your own speed record. I can not imagine going that fast on two wheels.

Interesting. Well at least he was wearing a helmet. I’m just not too sure how long one expects to live by repeatedly going over 300 mph in a freaking motorcycle. I would think if you survived it once, you should consider yourself lucky and call it quits. The other interesting note, it says the land speed record for a conventional motorcycle ? That bike hardly looks conventional, it looks more like the space shuttle.

I'm ok with being an average joe. I dont have any need to go that fast on four wheels, much less two.
I've never understood peoples desire to push limits like that.
He would have been okay if he'd only let go of that record he was holding and grabbed the handlebars instead.

Or, if he would have taken his hands off his crotch while riding the crotch rocket..

Because some people aren't cut out to be average.

That stinks. Interesting bike, and he was trying to break 300 in one mile of pavement.
I get the idea, but having a lot more room for safety to go for the record would have been smarter.
Like at Bonneville.

Sorry to hear this sad news. At the same time if you are going to engage in dangerous activity and push it to the limit bad shit is going to happen. Sorry if that sounds callous but that is how it is. Those are the Laws of Physics.

I've always liked George Mallory's answer for why he'd bother climbing Everest (which ultimately killed him):
Because it's there.

I know that, I just don't understand it. And how could I if I those desires are not within me?

Sometimes you just have to challenge death and live dangerously. I can understand this. It's almost like a high you might get from a drug. You play the odds and you get that endorphin rush when you make it and come out successful. I am not afraid of death however, I enjoy life too much to make a hobby of flirting with it.

"Yea. I get the rush."
Which Rush?
Good for him. He probably died a happy man. It would suck to die of heart disease or cancer if your passion was doing triple digit speed on crotch rockets.
Wow, i was born in Limestone. Theres nothing there.
