I just learned about this car company. Safer, lighter, better fuel economy and so fast, they weren't allowed to race it. Another car, before it's time.....

...and a $100,000 plus price tag.

Cool toy, but that's it.

$100,000 is cheap for a Supercar. The boat was missed when we ignored the technology. The technology is good for all cars and once mass produced, cost would go down.

Wouldn't you rather spend that on an antenna farm? xD

I dunno, if I had the 100G to spend, I'd have an Ariel Atom, AND the antenna farm.

With a Prius for commuting, so I could feel snug, and smug. ;)

I don't think I could spend $100K on ham radio. Not without moving, at least.

Well if you could just toss around 100k then you would likely be able to afford to move. I could spend 100k on AR (if I had it) but I'm not sure that I would. Then again, I wouldn't spend that much on a car either. Half of that, likely.

$100K?
I'd rehouse the house and still have half leftover for whatever.

Price would've gone down as production went up.

He's right about the press. Like sports, the automotive press is not up and above touting a product, and they will cheerlead when they want to. Usually companies that are already doing well.

Here's another one, that's $pendy, but it's an interesting development platform...

High-mileage VW XL1 to debut at Geneva Motor Show

Lightweight two-seater can get 270 mpg

A production version of the Volkswagen (http://www.autoweek.com/section/Volkswagen&template=newcars) XL1 plug-in hybrid, which the German automaker says can get up to 270 mpg, will debut at the Geneva motor show (http://www.autoweek.com/section/geneva) in March. VW will put the high-mileage two-seater into production later this year but has not disclosed a price.

The production XL1 closely resembles the concept (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20110126/CARNEWS/110129912) VW unveiled in early 2011. The aerodynamically shaped body, which includes fully covered rear wheels and rearview mirrors integrated into the door skin, cuts through the wind with a low 0.189 coefficient of drag.

VW says it will hand-build the XL1 at is plant in Osnabrück, Germany, which also builds the Porsche Boxster (http://www.autoweek.com/section/boxster&template=newcar&make=Porsche) and VW Golf (http://www.autoweek.com/section/golf&template=newcar&make=Volkswagen) convertible. The XL1 will initially be produced in a run of just 50 cars. After that, Volkswagen says production will be altered to meet demand.

The XL1 makes extensive use of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic for the body panels and aluminum for the frame structures. VW says the car has a curb weight of 1,753 pounds.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines an 800-cc two-cylinder diesel engine, rated at 47 hp, with an electric motor rated at 27 hp. Power flows through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The XL1 carries a lithium-ion battery pack under the hood. The car can travel up to 31 miles on electric power.

Wow, 0.189 coefficient of drag. Beats the hell outta my pickup, which I believe has roughly the same amount of drag as a 4x8 sheet of plywood traveling face-first.

Drag matters. I get almost 5 mpg better with the hardtop on the little Miata.

Americans don't want that crap. They want huge gas guzzling SUV's.

True. I tuck behind the windshield on the Ruck and climb another 5 MPH.

This gives me an idea. To buy a car I've always liked and try tucking a Wankel rotary engine to it. I'm going to start saving for a Saab Sonnet and see how that works out...

I knew because my cousin had one back in the day and I drove it a bit. First FWD car I ever drove and the torque steer was bothersome to me even with the stock four-banger. With a twin-rotor Wankel putting out as much HP as a small V-8, it would be intolerable.
