I run APRS when ever I'm in my truck. I know Kevin and Pat (MHZ) run it as well. I'm curious if anyone else has it set up in their vehicle. We need to know so we keep an eye on a few of you.

I think what you can do with it is fairly cool. That being said, I'm trying to justify what exactly I need it for :-D

No transceiver in the car, sold it when i ditched the van.
If need be i can just as well use the Wouxun with 5 watts in th magnetic antenna, but see no reason to do so.

Use it when walking. When I get the NH mobile, I do plan on using it most of the time. The "Illuminati" already knows where you are if you have a cellphone. Most of the time "they" are about as subtle as a jackhammer at 3AM.

I have the ULTIMATE APRS machine in the Town Car. But, after several years of flawless running, it WENT UP IN FLAMES around Tulsa,OK on the way to Dayton!

The PIC IC in the Tiny Tracker (Byonics) decided to latch on the PTT, and the kenwood TM-261A transmitted for EIGHT HOURS continuously before it was discovered and shut off!!!!

I investigated just WHY this could happen and can find no answers, other than an IC FAILURE! Fortunately, Byonics was at the Hamvention and I bought a new IC (VERY PRICEY!!! $18 for the chip!!!)and THOUGHT it was back alive. But I got no spots all the way from Dayton to SDG. It turned out the 2nd channel was not programmed correctly so no spots. Throwing a switch had it working again! RATS!

The Kenwood seems to have survived the ordeal just fine, though it has a strong BURNT RESISTOR smell now. I haven't looked inside, but it STILL WORKS, miraculously!

My APRS system is extra trick, because it has a WAKE UP timer that, while parked, wakes up, runs the tracker and GPS for about 5 minutes, gets some spots out, and then goes back to sleep. Every 2 hours or so. The Town Car CANNOT be stolen! I always know just where it is with FINDU. Right now it is in EGYPT...... OH WAIT, El Cajon. PHEW!!!!
