Well, they are expected to be rolling into the dealerships within a month. They seem super cool. Yaesu was touting them last year at the Hamvention and they still haven't released those babies.

So, I don't think I'll be getting one at $540. Anyone getting one of these things?

I have the Kenwood TH-F7 E that does about the same, AND all mode reception on the short wave included, where this Yausu does only AM/FM
Having a Wouxun 2/70 and Icom q7 i see no incentive to splash out for another H.T.

Not doing anything digital either.

I've always thought Yaesu was really good at making things we don't have a use for in the US :-P

I kind of feel the same way about Icom's upper-end D-STAR HTs. I carry a smart phone that crushes any built-in data transfer or image capabilities on an HT, so why would I want that thrown in?

Those voices around 162MHz never seem to answer back. I ask for a signal report and they keep giving me the temperature, wind speed and humidity.

Not very good conversationalists.

It depends on weather you ask nicely or are demanding. Believe me, I NOAA bout that.

Besides, VHF/UHF FM is Teh Evul...

80% of it around here is OK...I wish we had better topography for simplex. Used to enjoy that driving up to school in VA, there was a fairly active group on 2 meters that I'd run into.

Plenty of things worse than contesters. HF "service" nets, Old Geezer Medical HF nets, Holy Roller HF nets.... :roll: :sleep:

I've been finding that nets are starting to put me to sleep. We have a guy here that without fail, will list off every DXCC entity he's worked in the past 7 days.

I mean, I'm glad he's active, and it shows his determination, but it's like the roll call at the UN whenever he checks in.
