Forgot all about it. Envelope arrived today, thought it was ARRL junk mail. Just as I was about to toss it in the trash unopened, a little voice, distant as DX exclaimed "Open Sez Me."

Did you pursue that award doggedly? Did you hound the GRRL with doggerel until they sent it?

Oh, and I don't expect to do as well on the SSB portion for 2013. One of my ops didn't show (he got stranded in Philly), another had some family issues come up, and so it goes. Could have done better, should have. But there's always next year.

Did your dog get into the neighbor's dumpster as they were throwing stuff out for a move or do you live near a Lady Chatterly's Toy Box retail outlet?

Props to Jeff! I still love the graphics better. neenur!

< snip >Neither. Worse.

When the N8S trip to Swain's was on (the first one that counted as a new entity), Lucy was still a pup. The boss was recovering from an appendectomy, and I had a bad case of the flu, so she didn't get a lot of attention for a few days, got bored, found the coax feed to the HF6V, and chewed it into a dozen small segments. That's when I determined that her last name had to be Furr. The little demon.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever.

Seriously, Fred, you and 'DSG can consider yourselves officially invited to partake in the 2014 ARRL DX contests (CW, SSB, or both) from here next year. And that goes for just about everyone else around here too, who are willing to come in. You might have to share couch space with Lucy if you crash for the night, but she's friendly.

I'm just hoping that by the time they roll around, I'll have the shack rebuild done.

Think, man,........think. Invite them over a week or so ahead of time. You will have all kinds of help to work on the shack. I saw it on DIY disaster renovations

Seriously, I hope to work on the shell of the new shack this summer. The decks are built, and I have some inside stuff to do, but outside of making some changes to the front steps & related retaining wall, I don't have a lot of outdoor projects in front of me this summer.

I do have to get a saw with the right concrete-cutting blades to cut a doorway into the garage...

Be careful. You might just have an Illinois interloper screaming into your microphone at 3 AM in the morning.

Never worked a DX contest from the East Coast.

Is P40V still around?

His massive spread in Nevada City, CA was for sale a few years ago. Monobanders all over the property.

I know that a P43 call is a native Aruban. I thought the P49 were for "permanent residents", possibly the P40 are special contest calls?

I looked around a little bit, and it appears Carl Cook is now living in Aruba. He was a member of the Northern California Contest Club when I was a member 20 years ago. You'd never guess he had the money he has if you met him in person.

If I had the scratch, I would have loved to have his old house in Nevada City. Beautiful house, great antennas, wonderful area. I'll try to find the listing.

Oh, 'an aeroplane'. Oh, I say, we are grand, aren't we? (imitation posh accent) 'Oh, oh, no more buttered scones for me, mater. I'm off to play the grand piano'. 'Pardon me while I fly my aeroplane.

Next thing you know, he'll roll in in a chaeuffer-driven Rolls Royce and inquiry as to whether or not one can spare a smidgen of Grey Poupon...
