Blonde moment of the day.

So what's the drink of choice for Cinco de Mayo? What's the best thing to ask the Bartender for?

Corona of course.

Big honkin' pitcher of margaritas, made with Cuervo Gold.

Our table is already reserved at the little joint up the road.

Unfortunately, we'll be out long past closing time. A year back we went on the infamous "55 on 5/5 ride" and 'DSG is up for a repeat tomorrow. She gets home around 6:30 so it'll be 7ish before we get on the trail.

I suppose I'll make up a pitcher ahead of time and have it ready for consumption on our return.

Same Mexican place?

If so, good choice.

For me a glass of water. I never take wine, beer, liquor or any alcohol. Gave it up entirely in January.

Maybe a good French wine? :)

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican victory over the French army in the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. Maybe because of all the Corona beer publicity, a lot of folks think it is the Mexican Independence Day (which is actually the 16th of September).

Possibly, the battle's outcome affected the history of the United States. For the year that followed the battle, until the French were able to regain Mexico, Napoleon III would find it difficult to supply the Confederate troops, in the U.S. Civil War.

The funny thing about Cinco de Mayo is that it's a much bigger deal on this side of the border than it is down in Mexico.

Yeah, it is mostly celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla, where the battle occured. Here in the state of Jalisco, nothing much happens. Although, I think the kids are out of school on Monday, for the holiday. The last major Mexican holiday was Labor Day, on May 1st, when most businesses were closed.

People in this country love to have a big celebration for most anything. Take St. Swithens day, please.

No, Janet - this one is to the north a mile and a half. Jalapenos (where the three of us ate) is a couple miles to the west...is under new ownership...and the food has taken a big slide in quality.

I really liked their Enchiladas Festival - chili con carne style. No one else in the area offers that dish or anything similar. Our favorite place (El Puente) features something called a Burrito California. It's nice and light, very tasty and filling.

Last time we were there the wife of one of the owners, her girlfriend, 'DSG and I threw down mas tequila. It's a fun joint and is one we patronize often.

We celebrate our liberation of WW2 as country, the 4th is the remembrance of all people killed here in WW2 including oversees parts and allied soldiers.

We stick to that religiously as people.

Last night I drank (in no particular order) a bottle each of Great Lakes Siberian Night stout, Sam Adams Holiday Porter and two bottles of Guinness Black Lager.

Head feels like a football at the moment - am also doing the coffee thing - but any beer does that to me.

Very strong liquor, on the other hand, doesn't.

If anything today, I'll have to go to the next town over and pick up some Lagunita's and possibly a chocolate stout. Our liquor laws are by county and by license. If your business is in a town that allows Sunday sales, you must pay a fee for each Sunday you sell. It started out at $150 but has since gone up to $500. You better be the only business within several miles selling at that price.
Right now it's raining constantly and sometimes in solid sheets. You guys on the coast and to the north will be seeing all this starting tomorrow. The sheriff has issued a weather warning telling people to stay indoors because when they say, "turn around don't drown" we consider that a challenge to both nature and the government. The guys in 10 foot tall 4WD trucks with giant tires that are 4 feet tall still don't seem to get it. Those things float the truck and when that occurs, the truck is so top heavy that it topples on it's side and slams the driver and passengers into and under the water. Although the eagle on the Mexican flag is pretty cool, it's a bit pretentious compared to the straight forward way we lily white homophobic xenophobic Southern Americans use the eagle. We simply put it on everything.

Happy Sink full of Mayonnaise day.

Cinco de Bismarck.

Hmmmm... Is this place run by actual Mexicans? I ask because I believe it should be La Puente (feminine article for a noun ending in E) rather than El Puente.

It means "The Bridge," BTW.

Here, if you grab a jar of mayo off the grocer's shelf, chances are that it will have lime juice added. You can find plain mayo, also, but most of the store offerings will have the lime flavor.

That doesn't look half bad. Sounds worse than it looks. Maybe I'll try that sometime. After a 6 pack of Brooklyn Lager.
