All predictions were that 10m would have poor conditions today, yet I just worked Chile and New Caledonia on PSK-31.

Isn't that where McHale used to hang out?

Because PSK punches through when all other modes fail. It will save the planet one day ... from Aliens.

I dunno about the alien part but it is a good mode for those of us with wimpy stations.

Add Brazil to the list, BTW.

I think he used to go there for R&R.

And Carpy and Capt. Binghamton.

Actually, I think the name of the island was Taratuppa.

You and Carl are correct. They were on Taratuppa, and Bingington was on New Caladonia, which is where McHale et al. would go to get the party chicks. And Pappy was on Bella La Cava. And Gilligan, well...enough said.

I have the complete seasons of Baa Baa Black Sheep. It's cheesy.

Yeah, but I couldn't wait for the next episode to air. Tommy "The Riceball" was a hoot. Hey Boyington-san.

I liked Simon Oakland as the "good" general and Dana Elcar as the "bad general".

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/190/1189125227_1.jpgYa know, I always wondered if there was a ham working on that show... or if it was just pure coincidence that the boat was numbered PT 73.

Worked Oz on 10m SSB again this afternoon, VK4JU. Except for a bit of QSB, it was almost as clear as an FM repeater. I bring his up because the band condition thing-a-ma-bob on the QRZ home page says only fair conditions on 10m today.

QRZ? That pretty much says it all.

The pope has a great way with hamspeak ...... "band condition thing-a-ma-bob" even made me sit up and take notice...... :agree:

Not to be an apologist for the Swamp, but they are just one more consumer of Paul Herrman's NOAA aggregator widgets. The data streams from NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, and Space Weather Canada. Pics of the sun are courtesy of NASA.

I take these 'weather' doo-dads and the info they spew the same way I do terrestrial weather. I don't pay any attention to the reports. Can't say how many times the conditions have been reported as shit and the bands quiet. Throw out a call and get a pile up from halfway around the world...

Just like local weather. Whatever it is one simply deals with it that day and goes on.

Yep, and exactly the point I was trying to make. I didn't mean my remark as a knock on Teh Zed, I only wanted to point out that even if the widget says conditions aren't good, it doesn't mean it's not worth checking them out for yourself. You might be in for a pleasant surprise.

If it were something that was cooked up in the Swamp it would be buggy, half baked, and never completed...

I did. (;->)

"If it were something that was cooked up in the Swamp it would be buggy, half baked, and never completed."

With a still that looks like a cross between Edison's light bulb experiments and a Slime O Tron I'm not surprised.
