Except for David Essex and (my personal guilty favorite "Pop Musik")
this is a collection of cheese.

Adam, If you're forced to playing Peoria with this dreck, you'll still make big bucks. Just make sure you bring your Denny McLain signed Hammond Organ...

I refuse to listen to that video out of fear of contracting a horrible 70's earworm. That had to be the worst decade for pop music in the 20th century.

Cheese and dreck, but plenty of hits by top name artists too. Just an FYI on House Of The Rising Sun, the Animals made it famous but it's a lot older than you think. Originally a 16 Century English folk song about a Soho brothel that English immigrants brought to America and adapted it to a New Orleans setting. Since the earliest known recording in 1934 it's been done by more artists than you can count.

There's no accounting for English taste in music, this song recorded in early 1971 by its composer Lally Stott and made popular later that year by Scottish band Middle of the Road for whom it was a UK number one chart hit. That version is one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide. Just thank your lucky stars it was unknown here... until now.

I would gladly do a gig with any number of those artists...well, the ones still alive, of course. The sideburns, the afros, the classic instruments..all cool. The painfully tight, male cameltoe inducing pants, the confederate Kepi's, the bad acting...fortunately, a relic of the past that didnt make the trip. I still like some of these songs, i remember most of them as a kid. :)

For the record, i love some of that stuff...but i have no fucking clue what the hell the fat guy in the blue fur was. The big dinner table, throwing a hat on that ladys face...the one in the still shot of the video before it plays....who is that?? Its awful!

I think i played a gig with the guitarist from Major Harris, by the way. He used to play in Midnight Starr with my old keyboard player.

"BEACH BABY by First Class!"

Thanks for reminding me of the days when I did warped vocals for one garage band or another. I could never remember the lyrics so what came out was a mix of David Allan Coe and Kevin "Bloody" Wilson. (;->)

Exactly. The beach boys take a week off, and some flash in the pan comes along and gets lucky. Meh

That's the music biz for ya, in a constant state of flux only today not magnetic, at least for me. "Take my old records off the shelf, I'll sit and listen by myself. Today's music ain't got the same soul, give me that old time rock and roll." That's the thing about old geezers, we're stuck in a groove bound by magnetic domains and when someone says "digital" we think fingers and toes.

Not this geezer. I listen to a LOT of new stuff. For instance, Moe. :bbh:

Superthick chunks of broken life and reality
At the dinner table come to me
Say goodbye, my friend, my exit's here
My road's so long, a million miles or so
Too much for me, I got to go
My navigator's here
And they say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
On Jupiter
Except for the meteors
Chorus:
And Nebraska's so flat that I don't care
I'll never use this map, have I made it clear
I don't know jack, but I stay sincere
Woah-oh my navigator's here
Superthick chunks of broken light in the Milky Way
You never know if they're burning bright
In Anchorage the sun's up about half the night
Half the day and most of the time
The sun burns bright all the time
Then the winter comes
And they say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
In Anchorage
Except for the polar bears
They say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
They say it's nice this time of year
On Jupiter
Except for the meteors
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
They say it's nice this time of year on Jupiter...

"Newish" progressive rock? Hell, if it wasn't new it wouldn't be progressive. It came into its own on the 20 years of WNEW-FM 102.7 New York, the station that put progressive in rock. Funny how the AM 1130 side put the new in New York (an old logo) by playing big bands and old standards, between them they were the best the city had to offer. Maybe worlds apart but that's my taste in music, at night when the MW band opened it was WWWWWWWWWWVA in Wheeling, WV and REAL Country, on occasion it was WSM in Nashville, TN weak but listenable for down home Bluegrass. Back to progressive for a moment, Vinegar Joe, Tonto's Expanding Head Band, The Serpent Power and Mirthrandir among others so progressive they sailed past mainstream "progressive"... one of my favorites in a dimly lit smoke filled room late at night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfx19V2eRQ4 Oh yeah, here's another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec8BGEb7_iA And another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV_hh-qp4h0 And last, well, ride the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyt1SqKuxQU

Never heard of it. During that time I was busy doing AM underground head music and general weirdness on the Saturday-Sunday overnight but that's Nick Danger's Third Eye Blind.
