The man who made being bipolar funny...

A lot funnier than that comment ever will be, Richard Cranium. :snooty:

Wasn't meant to be funny--I made a statement--the man made a career out of his bipolar disorder. It's not a state secret.

Gotta issue with that?

This is not meant in any sort of smart-ass way but, for some reason, I was under the impression that Winters had died some time back. Obviously, I was mistaken.

I do.

Winters wasn't bipolar. He was diagnosed with depression.

Yea, but it's really not funny. Jonathan was open about it.

Now, this is funny...

I don't know what health issues he had, And I really don't give a shit. What I do care about, is he was one of the funniest comedians every, in my opinion. I remember watching him when I was I was growing up, as well as later in life. He used to be on many of the TV variety shows, another thing that went away for some reason. (Not enough violence, blood, and suffering I suppose) Many others credit him for their comedic style and desire to enter show biz. Robin Williams come to mind.

RIP

It's kind of weird to think this way, but I have a few things in common. We both grew up in the same area, and went to the same jr. high school. What I do know of him, he was the class clown at school. I was in the publication club of Schaefer Jr. High in Springfield, Ohio. I was allowed to read the old year books, and newsletters from the 30's when he attended. He was easily recognized in his 9th grade school photo. The kids where given flower names that resembled their personality. His was "Daffydill". He apparently lived with his mother in Springfield, and had visitation with his dad on weekends in Dayton. The house he lived in is what i would call a mansion, or stately manor. It is a funeral home today. Two years ago, at my brother's funeral, I was chatting with one of the funeral home employees about the famous former resident. He mentioned that Jonathan Winters had visited recently. he was driving around Springfield, and Dayton to see how much the towns had changed. He only walked around outside. They asked him if he would like to take a tour of the facility, he declined the offer. He said there were too many bad memories inside, and he would rather they stayed there. I just also realized i was a part time engineer at the same radio station he worked at in Springfield. What a small world.

Link to a recent interview with our local newspaper. Worth the half hour or so investment:

"Many others credit him for their comedic style and desire to enter show biz. Robin Williams come to mind."

He was a Winters clone right down to the smile. The exception was Mork and Mindy, wired on coke he came across as Winters in fast forward.
