When removing Linux from your laptop, remember to remove Grub first. :oops:

Now my laptop is a paperweight while I try and remember which moving box has my windows disk in it.

Will be hit and miss on the forum till I find that box and get my machine back. Till then I have to use my wife's computer which is an excersize in frustration.

I'm sure there's a way out. If you need a Windows XP disk to repair the MBR, let me know. I'll mail you one.

I did the same thing some months back. A good reason to have an XP disk. Win 7 told me to piss off.

Wouldn't booting from a CD with DOS on it, and using fdisk /mbr accomplish the task?

Not sure, I always use the restore console and fixmbr after booting from an XP disk.

Download this, and burn to a CD-ROM: http://rescuecd.pld-linux.org/

Get that booted, and from the command line, type this command:
ms-sys -7 /dev/sda {For a Windows 7 box)

OR

ms-sys -m /dev/sda {For a Windows 2000/XP/2003 box)

Then, reboot.

I have 4 XP disks......in that darn box that continues to elude me. I am sure I will find it the day after I no longer need it.

Oh wait.....my blank cd's are in the same box. :wall:

What brand laptop? I can come up with some Dell OEM disks if that will help.

Made a rescue disk off my wife's computer. It is win 7 and I am running Vista, but it was enough to get me a command prompt so I could fix up the mbr.
