This gentleman is selling a used power cord for an Icom IC-251A (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ICOM-IC-251A-2-METER-ALL-MODE-POWER-CORD-/271171194649) 2m all-mode rig—a steal at only $19.99 plus $8 shipping!

I wonder if there is anyone so stupid as to not realize that this is a standard IEC 60320 power cord available at any office supply store for less than ten bucks?

Hey, I've got a box of 'em at work. Want one? Cost you a buck. Plus shipping. That should be about, oh, $19.95. Unless you'd like it overnight, then it would be $34.95.

I've got so many of them that they spill out of the box and I trip over the goddamned things every time I go out into the garage. I think they breed in the dark.

I have a dozen or more. Old ones, new ones, right angle ones... They are all over the place, and I am always chucking them out of the way. Until I need one that is. :wall:

Later, when I have robbed one from something else, they will all reappear and laugh at me. Bastards.

On the other hand, we have:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOLDERING-IRON-POWER-CORD-/261186318197?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccfeaef75

Can anyone guess

A) The manufacturer?

B) The MSRP?

I "won" two of those cords and was the only bidder either time. Some people are asleep at the wheel, it seems.

Looks like an ancient war relic. Yall dont charge via static electricity? Just rub your rig on your head for an hour or so.

I have an IC-251A. Perhaps my rig will work better with the official cord?

'Tis the only Icom I own.

Yes, it will. Icom uses special low-oxygen copper wire in their power cords which significantly increases the Q of the cord.

The correct technical term, according to the Icom technical manual, is the fuck Q.

That Icom power cord would have easily been worth $100, if the seller had kept the original little white box that it came in.

From eBay Seller: IT REALLY IS LIKE "ALMOST NEW." NO SCRATCHES OR DAMAGE ON THE FACE. EXCEPT FOR COSMETIC SCRATCHES ON THE OUTER CASE AND A MISSING ACCESS PANEL ON TOP, THE UNIT IS IN GREAT SHAPE.

"Almost New" seems to have been redefined with this 20 year-old receiver :)

Two bids, current bid price $710.

Asking price $2000. He must need that amount to pay for his crack habit because he has to be on crack to think he is going to get $2000 for that piece of junk.:wtf:

Not to support his Cracked habit but BECAUSE of his Cracked habit. Things got worse since March 2007, now he gets his Cracked free on the intertubes and by know he's completely insane.

Dude! have you read any of the ad copy from the snake oil merchants that sell high end "Interconnects" to gullible Audio enthusiasts? that positively tame compared to some of what I have read.

try this from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicated-Link-Cable/dp/B000I1X6PM
Oh and Read the comments. $499 for a 59 inch cat 5 cable

or try this one
http://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-NRG-WEL-Signature-Series/dp/B0055OM9WS/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_2
and read the comments as well. Feeling like you haven't spent enough money yet? Well here is a 6 foot long power cable for $6000. Not a misprint. Six G's for a power cable.

Lets hear it for Snake oil!

I love this review of $10,000 Ethernet cable:

Great cable, but too fast. June 23, 2008
By Matthew Sidor
Transmission of music data at rates faster than the speed of light seemed convenient, until I realized I was hearing the music before I actually wanted to play it. Apparently Denon forgot how accustomed most of us are to unidirectional time and the general laws of physics. I tried to get used to this effect but hearing songs play before I even realized I was in the mood for them just really screwed up my preconceptions of choice and free will. I'm still having a major existential hangover.

I had for some time lots of fun entering the high end hi-fi store here and have a chat up with the boy's and destroying their myths.
Showing with a scope at home here for the few disbelievers what crock they bought for overpriced money...
I'm not longer welcome in that store... i wonder why? ;)

Yeah. And Radio Shaft teaches their sales that 300 ohm twinlead has more loss than 75 ohm coax because 300 ohms creates more resistance than 75 ohms does. The stupid doesn't even hurt them. They feel better for it.
