Nah. I'm not near a radio and I gotta hit the sack in 30 minutes. We switched to a four-tens schedule at work beginning this week and while having a 3-day weekend every week will be great, getting to work at 6 AM (before even a hint of dawn these days) is decidedly less great.

If you don't already have Brazil, you don't have an HF radio and an antenna worth spit. Same goes for Italy, Germany, and several of the Baltic countries.

I think Ron still needs Mars on 160.

I would be happy to work 6-land right now since my fucking rig is on the fritz. No DXing for me is a real pisser. :(

Now, if U want REAL DX, U gotta get down in the CW Pileups to work the 9M4SLL Spratly Island!
I gottem in the LOG! And I nailed the TX5K Clipperton on 19 or 20 bandmodes! THAT is DXing!!!

Can't be arsed to do that work, i pick them as i find them, mostly one call is enough to book them.
Now let's talk 160 phone and see how far you get there.... I worked USA Canada South america USSR up to 6000 miles etc, from the edge of the city with the lowly FT 2000-D and Heathkit SB-1000, and inverted L homebrew.
C.W. would have been much easier, but then i normally don't do that easy, looking for a challenge is more my schtick ;)

That's pretty impressive. The Clipperton pileups were massive.

Isn't Spratly the place where some German hams were killed by pirates or something back in the '80's? I know the Islands are disputed territory.

17m, 2007. Where were you?

ZD9 Tristan De Cunha, SV/A Mount Athos,

Don't think I have either of those.

BS7H Scarbourough Reef,

A rock barely above water at high tide? A fucking joke it's even on the list, IMHO.

and E4 Palestine.

15m, 17m, and 20m, 2010. Again, where were you?

But the VU7 only made 300 contacts to North America. I was one of them thankfully.

Congrats!!! That is a Rare one!!! Needless to say, doubt any West Coasters were in the log, 'cept those guys with the 200ft towers and 12 element 20 meter beams.

I was on for the E4X, but couldn't break through the East Coast wall. NOW, I have my Kilowatt and am ready for the next Serious E4 expedition. But sure would be nice to have some PROPOGATION too. Really need Propogation for the VU7! ZD9 would be easy if someone would get on from there. Same with BS7H. Not likely anyone will go there again anytime soon. But it is keeping me off of #1 Honor Roll!

VU7: Might be a long wait
ZD9: On periodically
SV/A: Monk Apollo or nuthin'. There were some complaints a few years back by some of the locals WRT visiting hams, and the Powers That Be that control the place... well, let's just say be thankful that Monk Apollo is still QRV and leave it at that.
BS7H: Another one that might be a long wait. Especially with the current shennanigans in the area.
E4: Pops up every now and then. Hopefully the West Bank area is calm enough that another E4 op could be possible.

Ill be waiting a while. N7YA is off the air...driving me nuts. Within the next couple of months i will be looking around for an inexpensive used rig for a couple of hundred bucks. Someones surplus backup or something. I never needed an amp, i can bust pileups with 100w...but the rig needs to work first. I missed this Clipperton operation, and again...another Spratly op. :(

Right on.

The damn cats woke me up at 3 am because they were hungry (I'm sure you know this one, Pat) so I decided to play radio.

I worked Spain and Australia on 40 phone! Not a huge deal, but both contacts were more than the 5/9 please qsl variety. I actually talked to both stations. The VK3 was doing Australian field day and had an incredible signal. The EA1 wanted to talk more but was language limited plus we kept getting interrupted by a VE2 (who was 30 over here in Ill) who had to show what a big gun he was, even though I'm sure he'd worked EA a zillion times before.

It's amazing what you can do with the right combination of geography, antenna and propagation.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through getting my HF digital-modes operating position back into shape. Was running a TS-940S, Signalink USB and a Shuttle MicroATX P4...until the Shuttle's hard disk died and the '940 got swapped out for an FT-980.

The Shuttle is back in operation but I have to get hold of another EVGA6200 video card plus an Addonics SATA/USB card to finish it up. Then I'll need to locate a CAT cable for the '980 and build a suitable transceiver interface cable for the Signalink.

Final piece of the configuration puzzle fell into place last week: I managed to locate an FC-757 antenna tuner. I don't plan on running QRO RTTY with the '980 so the Yaesu unit will fill the bill nicely. (I have been using an AT100 with the rig but you have to manually switch bands with a non-Icom rig. Not so with the new tuner; it will band-track with the transceiver.)

Everything should be up and running over the next couple months. The two 17" Mag CRTs I'm using at the moment are getting replaced by three flat-panel units. One of those will be common to the KVM switch and the others connected to their respective PCs. Thus, I will be able to ham on one and do forum stuff on the other concurrently.

I really miss playing around with PSK, SSTV and all of the other sound card modes which MRTTY and HRD support.

Roger that. I'm geographically challenged when it comes to reaching European stations and circumstances prevent me from moving any time soon but at least I'm on my way to remedying the antenna part of the equation: I just committed to buying a used 55' (17m) crank-up tower. Propagation, of course, is out of my hands. Cycle 24 has apparently peaked but at least I'll be ready when Cycle 25 comes around in 2025.

We're a good 90 minutes to 2 hours, minimum from the closest areas that would be considered Central PA, 2 1/2 to 3 from the more populated parts; like State College (PSU), Dubois, and... dare I say it? Punxatawney.

My mom would agree since shes been living there since the late 80's. I first went to Carlisle in 1988, and know that town like the back of my hand (almost)...its actually getting a little Walmart/Ghetto/truck depot-ish these days. It used to be a nice, historic, quiet little town, the trucks driving down the 300 year old streets meant for wagons is really killing the place.

I worked Argentina SSB QRP on 10m using Ron's old Ten Tec Argonaut 505. That's five watts. If you can't work Argentina on 20m with 100 watts, there's something wrong with your antenna.

Ron: That thing is a hoot. I spend 90% of what little on-air time I have these days using it.
