Almost strong enough to make a Californian look up from his morning coffee.

Yep. In fact, it's more likely to happen in NYC than it is in San Diego.

I can only feel that now that it's happened there, it's just a matter of time before it happens in NYC.

We had a 3.8 a few years ago and it felt like a truck hit the side of the house.

Actually my understanding was that quake was just signalling the spot where the volcano will break through the ground in the middle of beautiful downtown San Diego....... and on the exact day as the 2nd anniversary of the 9.0 Japan quake and tsunami..... thats what you have to call warming up in the bullpen for anyone living on the west coast of North America!

One can only hope that the epicenter of the big West.Coast quake will be
on Tillicum Rd. in Saanich, BC......

"One can only hope that the epicenter of the big West.Coast quake will be on Tillicum Rd. in Saanich, BC."

You're forgetting the history of that part of North America. A quake there will cause a tsunami that will inundate the coasts of Washington and Oregon where evacuation routes are already mapped out but will they get to high ground in time? Then across the Pacific there is Hawaii and Japan, one Fukashima was enough. BTW, tillicum to da prison won't be soon enough AND we've had our fill of saaniches, how about a hot meal for a change?

"Actually my understanding was that quake was just signalling the spot where the volcano will break through the ground in the middle of beautiful downtown San Diego......."

Oh, you mean something like this?

Yeah...... something like that

.......and when the 9.0 plus quake does hit us..... and it will,we'll be seeing the bonus of the tsunami as well.Something to look forward to.......NOT!

I've experienced a 7.0 quake here on Vancouver Island.... scared the hell out of me

I really hope the big one won't happen in my lifetime!

I made it through the '89 Loma Prieta quake (7.1) in the Bay Area, that's the biggest one I care to have to deal with on this round of the wheel.

Looks like another little shaker outside of LA.

4.6, meh, that hardly even counts. I didn't even notice it, it might get a short article on the front page of the local section tomorrow.

I figured. You guys on the coast probably don't notice anything much under 6 or 7.

In the Bay Area, pretty much.

When I was living in the dorms at Cal in 1980, there was a series of 5.0's in the span of about two weeks. Didn't even make the newspaper, but it made all the Geography/Geology geeks hyperventilate.

Here in East County, we get 5-6.0 quakes all the time, and they barely rattle the dishes. the biggest one just swayed the chandlelier. No radios fell down, nothing broken, notta problem. LA and SF get ALL the good quakes. SDG is IMMUNE to quakes (of any significance!)

I feel for the peeps in California, having lived there. The rumblings can be unnerving, as it was during the Northridge earthquake. Now the map showing the people feeling the ground move in south florida, Ft. Lauderdale area is funny !! I think that was the elderly bash after drinking all night. Doesn’t count. If you really want a treat, you can come to Guam. Let me give just a partial list of things to kill you. Earthquakes almost every week, Typhoons, nuclear bombs, agent orange in the ground, misguided B52 bombers and out of control fighter jets, live power lines hanging outside Circle K, snakes everywhere, centipedes that will kill you, killer marine toads, the food, the water, boonie dog packs, flesh eating bacteria, well that was just off the top.

I don't know HOW you can stand those Brown Snakes and Centipedes!

Why are the toads deadly? you aren't supposed to lick them! Freaks here in CA get high by licking toads.

I have licked a few two legged toads in my day--but I always got high first... :cool2:
