Maybe Janet knows about this.

Looking for something that I can use to measure nuked homes. This one measures background levels so it is fairly sensitive.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Most modern geiger counters measure background radiation quite well. I am not familiar with this particular counter, I noticed it detects beta, gamma and x rays. For most purposes that is good enough however you may with to spend a little more and get one that detects alpha radiation as well. What you do want to avoid are the older Victoreen Civil Defense radiological survey meters. Those are designed for measuring high level radiation such as which occurs after an atomic accident or attack. Many of those types also very old and need calibration and to calibrate them you need a chunk of cesium which most people don't have laying around the house.

The one you are showing might be a good deal, I alve also heard good things about the gamma scouts

As for me I have built a couple of my own and I also built this kit,,

However I got it for a lot less money over a decade ago. I am in the process of interfacing it with a digital readout as in stock condition it is a manual audible click counter. It responds to background and clicks like mad when I put my vintage radium pocketwatch near it... :)

Check out the gamma scouts link above.

BTW when you say "nuked homes" what exactly do you mean ? Homes that are in the vicinity of a nuclear facility ?
