Whew! What a relief to learn this...

Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?

Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.

Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway
triggers what is known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.
Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale.

Thank goodness for studies like this. It's not our age, it's that darn door!
Lots of excuses ehrm, doors in my house...

I don't know, I was too busy looking for my keys.

I eventually found them—in the refrigerator.

Hey, that Tom Rush video was shot at Humphrey's here in San Diego. It's a crappy music venue, actually, but it does have a nice view of the harbor.

If passing through a doorway triggers an event boundary in the mind what happens when you stay inside a revolving door? There aren't any revolving doors around here so why does my mind go in circles? Perhaps the justice system being a revolving door explains why reformatories don't reform, penitentiaries don't bring about repentance and correctional institutions don't correct but it doesn't explain why
I'm so dizzy my head is spinning,
Like a whirlpool it never ends.
And I don't know what's makin' it spin,
It's making me dizzy.
