The California meteor was unusual in that it was visible over a major metropolitan area, but otherwise, not so much.

Cuba had an event similar to the one in Russia. Not as much damage, but similar fireworks...

The news of North America seeing lights comes as Cuba also apparently experienced a phenomenon similar to but smaller than the meteorite that hit Russia.

Residents described a bright light in the sky and a loud explosion that shook windows and walls.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage such as those caused by the Russia meteorite.

In a video from a state TV newscast posted on the website CubaSi late Friday, unidentified residents of the central city of Rodas, near Cienfuegos, said the explosion was impressive.

"On Tuesday we left home to fish around five in the afternoon, and around 8:00 we saw a light in the heavens and then a big ball of fire, bigger than the sun," one local man said in the video.

"My home shook completely," said a woman. "I had never heard such a strange thing."

Marcos Rodriguez, whom the video identified as a specialist in anthropology, said all signs point to a meteorite.

Interesting co-incidences. All around the time of the near-miss.

Cuba has a meteorite explosion, San Francisco gets an extra-terrestrial light show. (http://newsterm.blogspot.com/2013/02/california-fireball.html)

I haven't seen enough data anywhere to say for certain but it's possible that the hits in Russia, Cuba and California were related. Asteroids often do come in swarms.

The fact that those all happened at the same time as The Big One passed by was coincidental, however. It was traveling in a completely different direction than the one that landed in Russia.

Am I the only one that has noticed the similarity of these recent events to what happens in Battle Los Angeles
Maybe the Mayans weren't far off, or the writers of this movie either..

I have seen the movie and have it in my collection, if you haven't seen it.. I suggest watching it, it's a pretty good movie..

On that note as well...
IF these are aliens coming for our water, and they ARE "attracted" to RF signals... We as ham's, are FUCKED... :)

(There is a bit of sarcasm in here just to be sure people don't think I seriously think these events are aliens)

BTW, for those that haven't seen the movie and are wondering what I'm talking about, they show it in the trailer about one minute into it.. Kind of interesting that this russia event looked somewhat similar, with the bright flash right before landing... Just didn't have the giant smoke plume right before impact..

Those three meteors ARE aliens testing range and trajectory. The first few shots usually miss while working out a firing solution. The sci-fi idea isn't new, in the 1955 movie This Island Earth the Metalunians are at war with the Zagons bombarding Metaluna with meteorites. I found unintentional humor in it, neutrinos are nearly massless particles that pass through matter unimpeded yet Exeter used the interocitor's (some sort of sub space two way TV) neutrino beams as a disintegration ray. Then there are the names Exeter and Metaluna, Exeter and Petaluna are towns in California.

"IF these are aliens coming for our water, and they ARE "attracted" to RF signals... We as ham's, are FUCKED."
That's why Amateur Radio was shut down during WW2 and CONELRAD went into effect during the Cold War, to prevent aliens from homing in on signals.

I knew it! They ARE aliens...
Good thing I bought some more tin foil today, I needed another layer for my hat ;)
It keeps the government satellites and aliens from reading my thoughts...

(for others lacking of humor, it's that sarcasm thing that runs rampant around here..)

Better an army helmet, it'll protect you from meteors too.
