I live just a wee bit north of NYC. They are still calling for blizzard conditions here tonight. maybe not the 24-30" but we already have a few inches of snow/sleet/freezin rain on the ground and I expect there will be a lot more overnight.

I think the thing that is going to keep the measured snowfall down somewhat is the transition to sleet and rain before transitioning back to snow later on.

Brooklyn's gonna gidit. (;->) The way things are shaping up there will be some snow all the way to southern NJ with windy conditions persisting until Sunday. LI and New England get the blizzard but they're a hardy bunch. Just a lull in the storm here between rain and snow and I too hedge my bets because this is New Jersey and we have a saying and I think I'll coin a new one. Weather is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

Wife has the birds eye view of the Boston storm from the 7th floor of the Crown Plaza Newton Hotel. The hotel sits right over the Massachusetts Turnpike--and she says that there are NO CARS running anywhere by edict of the Governor. Winds about 30-40 MPH, and big, fat, heavy sticky snow plastering everything very quickly. She stopped at a Fresh Market on the way in from work early this afternoon to be sure she had a supply of food, munchies, and drinks.

Here in the booming metropolis of Bath, we have had about an inch. Total expected in 3-4", but the wind has gotten pretty brisk. The fireplace is crackling and the cable still runs for Blue Bloods at 10P...

Latest report from Boston is that teams of snow plows are running the highways in circuits--with police cars following the group. They are running up and down the MA Turnpike 5 abreast in a diagonal plow pattern. A round is about 30 minutes between sweeps.

The cars have been prohibited just so that this sort of plowing can be done. Boston public safety wants to make sure that there is no larger accumulation and that fire/police have fairly solid access into all parts of the city.

We are up to about 3 inches now in Podunk...

Thanks Cor. We got between 14 to 16" (36 to 41 cm) here in the foothills of the Catskills. Thank God we never lost power. It was coming in sideways all night long. We should be in the 40s by Monday. In Connecticut, New Haven got 30" and Hamden got 34".

Edit: I-84 is closed for it's entire lenght in NYS. Just went to walk out the door. 3 foot drift on the side of the building and the walkway has at least 2 feet of snow on it.

Didn't lose power, but the power was flickering off/on - not good for the electronics, so I shut everything down. Easy over 24" out there, I took pictures, and will post them soon. I tried to get ahead of the snow by clearing the driveway last night until that bolt of lightning blasted through the sky... that was it for me.

usually, it only takes 1/2 hour to clear the driveway(snow thrower)... today, 3 hours. Tough to do when the snow towers over the thrower.

The biggest problem for me is fatigue of the left arm, due to the massive rotator cuff repair I had last July.

I am task oriented, so what has to be done, gets done, and I have to do it now. But thanks for the concern, Hank. Besides, to me, its fun work to clear driveways - when one has the right tools. I measured the snow depth in multiple places, and I have somewhere between 21.5 and 22 inches, non-drift, non-inflated. The biggest snow for me is still with the Blizzard of '78, and in 69, where in '69, the snow drifted onto the roof of the house, and the snow completely smooth-covered the car, only with the antenna sticking up out of the snow. I rank this in my experience as #3.

HAH! That's what happens when you leave the windows open! Thankfully not all that much here at the Jerky Snore but you guys up north have my sympathy. Well, not so much, you're survivors. Last night I watched reporting on the Weather Channel and it reminded me of a few blizzards we've had here, today I watched a bit of the clearing operations. They were using forklifts to remove stranded cars, desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose. No power means no heat without a generator, I hope it comes back soon. Round 2 can be snow, ice or rain but for Boston at least with a high of 42 it should be just rain. Here round 2 is expected to be rain, that'll take care of round 1. Snow expected Wednesday, Wednesday night for Boston so here we go again.
