nice....brought back LOTS of memories from my youth spent at Lions Drag Strip
in Long Beach, Calif in the late 1950's to early 1960's.....
my Brother worked for Mickey Thompson as a Machinist, so we got to hang out
with all the racers & builders....Don Garlits, Jack Chrisman, Tommy Ivo, Stone,
Woods & Cook with their very fine '49 Willy's coupe, and many more that I don't
remember the names of.....
my friends Brother was the Starter, so we got be right there & smell the Nitro
and burning rubber as they blasted off......good times & good memories...thanx

Yep
No problem in selecting gearing then.

I do it every morning on the drive to work. If you aren't quick out of the hole coming onto the highway merge ramp you're getting a semi up your arse.

You mean you're NOT supposed to stop at the end of the on ramp to wait for it to be clear?
I recall a story about a proctologist who suffered from lack of depth perception.

Sounds like the Long Island Distressway. That's New York for you, New Jersey has long merge lanes.

Virginia adds another little fear factor to their ramps. They connect the on and off ramps together so the guys speeding onto the highway hit the guys slowing down to get off the highway.

I was privileged to ride in a 401 Javelin down the track once. We made it out of the box and went sideways. Shit my pants, in a good way. I walked back. LOL

Wow, small world. I used to go to Lyons on Saturday nights and even ran brackets there a few times. I lived just over the hill from OCIR and spent a good bit of time there. I raced bikes in the 70's and used to run the road circuits at Riverside and Ontario motor speedway. There was also a good drag strip at Pamona. Sadly all of them are gone now except for Riverside raceway but only because its an SCCA track.
The sound of straight cut tranny gears brings back memories.

No problem in selecting gearing then. Depends on the tire diameter. Probably a number in the high 4's or low 5's. Not real good for freeway driving.
