Wow! Such the welcome! Thanks folks - and thanks for the nice invitation to join up over here.
It's not that I don't like QRZ - I do. They just have a lot of quirky clique-ish folks and attitudes,
and some of the rules are just "out there" IMO. But a lot of nice folks there too - I just feel like
a "misfit" there a lot of the time when the "big guns" talk me down about something I had no
idea I wasn't supposed to say.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome - I look forward to being on the Island with the other misfits!

Thanks again for the welcome and all.... but I have to say, every time I hit "new posts" t's just an
entire page of one screed or bash or hate thread or religion thread.... not a lot of HAM RADIO
being discussed.... is that's what meant by the "misfits" bit - that it's really not that much of
a ham site, but a place for all the chat that's not allowed at QRZ.com and folks that have been
run off QRZ for such topics in the past?

I'm getting that sense... not complaining, just an observation after a few days. Probably not
the place for me, sadly. I just don't care about that stuff and was hoping to find a site
where the forum was predominantly Amateur Radio discussions.

It's all good - again, just my observations.

Just did ("got to meet Bob Heil today") and believe it or not, in just a half an
hour, it's already no longer visible on the "new posts" first page! So anyone also
using "new posts" is not likely to see it and reply or join in a discussion about Heil
microphones....

So what do you do with that studio of yours? I really must post pics of my little operation. I'm taking a break from wiring in a hear back hub as we speak. I like reaper but my first pick is Nuendo. I have Protools but I really don't like it. I keep it around mostly to make it easier to import and export sessions. I Like ham radio but, Music and Recording is really my passion. I also build and modify microphones. Big fun.

You are very observant. It is possibly unfortunate that many of us here have been together bashing each other on here for many years. It is much like sibling rivalries, though. Some of us feel almost like family. We have shared events, thoughts and ideas on the board, on the radio, on the phone and on PM. To an outsider as yourself, you have no way of understand the unwritten history, much of which appears to be lost over the years and the behind the scenes stuff that has already transpired.

Does any of this mean that we do not love the hobby? No way. I read your post about Bob Heil and was pleased that you were able to meet the man. I have seen him twice at the hamventions but never have met him personally. But he is an icon for the hobby. I am happy for you and you look like a sharp character.

Joining this group is like joining a family. You have to contend with its history. Maybe it's too much for you to comprehend and you pass it off as not being worthwhile. Many have. Sup to you.

Purple and bright blue. Small and easy to haul around. Wish I still had it.

I like my two element Goldline mic quite a bit.
