We had a White Christmas in 2010 followed by the coldest Winter I've ever experienced. 36 degrees in late March felt like a warm up. 3rd week of April it warmed up to 70 and never dropped below that until the following October. The following Winter was the mildest on record even though we had a pretty hard cold for 10 days in December. The rest of the season was in the 50s and 60s and lows never got below 42.
This year so far, we have not had that hard cold snap for the usual 2 weeks in December. Looking at the maps, my specific area is right on the line for this season's jet stream dips. It might be 25 degrees colder 36 miles north during such a dip while it might be 20 warmer 20 miles south when we get a dip.
