listen to the crap on 40. This really makes me sad.

I'm there...what am I supposed to be hearing?

ETA:

There are some very misguided individuals on the frequency, spouting a number of statements bordering on the totally ludicrous.

Methinks perspective is lacking amongst our backwoods brethren. I recognize the call of at least one of them as having been kicked off QRZ once or twice.

Based on the recommendation, I have not bothered.

Let's put it this way:

More ill-informed backwoods types who are arguing for a magazine ban in one breath then apparently advocating anti-government violence with the next.

In other words...'tards.

Tards who sound like CBers. I know I'm a cranky old fart and the reality is that I don't have anything against CB but I like ham radio to sound like ham radio.

One of those is an open participant in the 313 mess. Draw your own conclusions.

What bothers me is that 15 and 40 were the last untainted bands and now it looks like were down to just 15.

160m still seems pretty good, probably because getting on that band is too much work for the average CBer-turned-ham.

There are some local guys here on CH 38 who discuss radios and antennas and seem to be very polite. If I had a CB radio, I'd talk with them.

You have to own more than a few square feet/meters to put up an antenna.

I spun there and hear some fellerz talking about loop antenna behavior.

CBers left the frequency some time ago.

My backyard between the neighbours is just 20 x 36 feet, still fits a 77 feet inverted L there...

I met some really great people back when I was operating CB. Not all CB'ers fit the stereotype that is commonly tossed at them.

As are 17 and 12. And 10 - I frankly don't hear the kind of hoo-hah on 28MHz that I witnessed earlier today on 7. Maybe the occasional overzealous 10-10 nut, Mexican/Central American bootlegger ("beeep!") or the Srsly DXing Guy but the 75-40-20M mannerisms seem absent from the band.

So are 160, 80, and 40... You just have to latch onto the good stuff and avoid the dreck. The good stuff is on AM.
